Gerald "Jerry" Goldberg, 83, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Palm Beach Gardens Hospital Hospice Unit. After surviving a number of life-threatening conditions over the past three decades, he succumbed after an 11-month battle with ampulary cancer.
Born and raised in Reading, Pa., he was the son of Maurice and Ida (Ripling), both deceased. He graduated from Reading High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in marketing from Penn State University, where he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity.
After college he completed Air Force basic training in San Antonio, TX and then moved to New York City to train with Italian technology company Olivetti. He remained with Olivetti for 11 years and lived in five cities, with many trips abroad, before returning to Reading, where he co-founded Craft-Maid Kitchens, Inc. and worked as its CEO for more than 50 years.
A long-term bachelor, he was happily married to wife Monica (Berman) for more than 40 years. They share one daughter, Elizabeth, New York City, and cared for dozens of animals during their years together.
An avid horseman, he learned to ride during summers at Camp Conrad Weiser, was a competitive show jumper in his teens, and enjoyed fox hunting in later years, despite the early morning start times. He also enjoyed playing and watching tennis, James Bond movies, and traveling.
With an outgoing and sometimes goofy personality, he maintained friends from childhood, college, work, and socially, including in his adopted hometown of West Palm Beach, where he enjoyed going out to eat and drinking vodka with lots of olives on the side.
He was predeceased by a brother, Louis. A large extended family remains.
