Robert Eugene Mertens, 86 of West Melbourne passed on Friday, November 22, 2019. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on January 2, 1933 the son of William Frederick Mertens and Estelle Ruby Wright Mertens.
Robert honorably served his country with the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After his military retirement he worked as an electrical engineer with Harris Corporation. Robert also was active in the Masonic Lodge for many years. He was also a diehard Atlanta Braves fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Dorothy Mertens, his sons Eric (Lisa) Mertens, Joshua Mertens, Robert Mertens and Daryl (Phyllis) Mertens, his daughter, Brenda (Don) Stephenson, and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Scott Mertens and his grandson Craig Mertens. Robert will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a visitation held on Friday, November 29 from 5-7pm at Fountainhead Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10am on Saturday, November 30 at Fountainhead Funeral Home with entombment following at Fountainhead Memorial Park.
