A native of Bayside in Queens, New York, after attending Catholic schools she married James Cox, a master electrician with whom she had two children, James and Kenneth. Pregnant, and with a two year old son, she was widowed when her husband died of complications from appendicitis in 1967.
Her second marriage to Albert “Spike” Larson of Westhampton Beach, New York three years later in 1970 produced two more sons, Ryan and Michael Larson. The family moved from Westhampton Beach to Palm Bay in 1977. Sadly, her second husband Albert died of natural causes in 1992.
A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Melbourne, Florida, her sons were educated in local schools and she worked diligently both at Regions Bank and at Publix supermarket in Palm Bay, where regular shoppers became her good friends.
Judy Larson was the daughter of John and Jane Barnes, both deceased. She is survived by her sons James Cox of Toms River, New Jersey and his wife Kathleen, Kenneth Cox and Ryan Larson of Palm Bay, and Michael Larson of Bakersfield, California. Survivors also include all her brothers and sisters, specifically John Barnes of Bayside, New York and James Barnes of Bayside and Breezy Point, New York, Jane Davey (her fraternal twin) of Williston Park, New York and Josephine Serafin of Breezy Point and Tampa, Florida.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fountainhead Funeral Home in Palm Bay. A gathering to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at 6PM Thursday, July 30 at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, August 24 at Sacred Heart Parish in Bayside, New York, with internment thereafter at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
