July 8, 1953 – March 16, 2017
Obituary
Bonnie Matthews, 63, of Palm Bay, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Florida Hospital, Orlando, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 24, 2017 at Fountainhead Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay, Florida.
Bonnie was born at home in Lorton, Virginia on July 8, 1953 to the late Claude and Alice Deviers. She went to high school and graduated from Hayfield Secondary School. Bonnie went on to dedicating her forty-plus year professional career to banking. She began as a teller at Woodlawn National Bank in Virginia where she met and married her favorite customer, Buck. Before moving away from Virginia with her husband and children, Bonnie had worked her way up to Branch Manager and Associate Vice President. After taking up residence in Palm Bay, Florida in 1985, Bonnie served a brief stint in residential construction before returning to her chosen career of banking at Duval Federal. In 1992 Bonnie began working at Space Coast Credit Union, where she eventually became a Senior Underwriter. Bonnie had just celebrated her 25-year anniversary at Space Coast in February 2017.
Bonnie leaves behind her husband Buck, her daughter and son-in-law Christie and John, her son and daughter-in-law Jason and Jennifer, and her darling grandchildren Chase and Tyler. She is also survived by her sister Margaret, brothers Jimmy and Wayne, and 28 nieces and nephews. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Alice, her sisters Jean and Joyce, and her brother Buddy.
Bonnie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, but nothing brought more joy to her life than being a grandmother and spoiling her grandbabies. Chase and Tyler were the lights of her life, and she video-chatted with them constantly. Bonnie was a fantastic cook, an avid reader, a lover of animals, and was passionate about all things Las Vegas. She spent countless hours dreaming, planning, visiting websites, saving, and talking about vacationing in her beloved Vegas. As Bonnie was often fond of saying, “I’d rather be in Vegas.”
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made in Bonnie’s memory. As Bonnie was a liver and kidney transplant recipient, a Giving Page has been set up online at Florida Hospital Transplant Institute’s Transplant House:
