Joseph George Olaeta passed away on August 22, 2022, after a long battle with esophageal cancer at home sur- rounded by his loving wife and daughters. He was born November 2nd, 1943 to Camille Goff Olaeta & Joey Olae- ta in Calistoga, Ca. Joe was the 2nd born of eight children and the firstborn son. He was 78 years old and had been a resident of Monterey since he was 2 years old, making him a lifelong resident of the peninsula.
He graduated from Monterey High in 1961, attended MPC where he continued to play baseball, and was named to the Al1-Coast JC Conference Team as a freshman and dubbed the "rifle-armed backstop". He liked to brag about the time he got three hits off the famed pitcher, Tug McGraw. After MPC, he completed an apprenticeship with the IBEW to eventually become an owner-operator of Anderson Electric with his beloved father-in-law Bud.
Joe's life was devoted to his adoring wife of almost 58 years and his daughters, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. He loved playing tennis with his long-time friends at Meadowbrook, dancing at parties, hosting family and friends at his home for holidays and gatherings, and was also a passionate sports fan with great enthusiasm for the San Francisco Giants & Golden StateFrancisco Giants & Golden State Warriors. His greatest achievement in life was being able to spend time with his loved ones as well as care for and watch his granddaughters and great-grandchildren grow up.
Joey is survived by his wife, Anne Olaeta, his daughters Stephanie Olaeta and Jennifer Telford (John), his granddaughters Jenelle Newman(Ben), Melanie Olaeta, and Annjoeli Olaeta, and his great-grandchildren Evalyne, Remington & Archer Newman. As well as his many cherished brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Joey & Camille Olaeta, his great-granddaughter Monroe Newman, his brothers Mike and Lawrence Olaeta, and his nephew Aaron Reed.
Services are to be held at San Carlos Cathedral on
Wednesday, September 7th at 10:00 am.
