I am so sorry for the families loss, may God bless you all.  Dr. George Bishop was such a kind and loving vet.  He treated everyone with respect .  He was gentle with my dog and my cat, he showed, love for them.   He truly cared for our fur babies.  He was very good at his job and you could tell that he enjoyed and loved what he was doing.   I am so sorry that he passed away, he is surely missed.     He was there for my Holly doggy and for me when we needed him most.   He was honest and his job was not about how much money he could get from you.  He truly wanted to help my Holly to have a happy life.  I am so grateful to him  as my Holly  is fine now, she is able to walk, run, and jump once again, and she is my happy dog at fourteen years old.   I could never thank him enough for his kindness and tender heart, as he cared not only about my dog and my cat but about how I felt also. Dear Family and Friends of Dr. Bishop, I am just now hearing of the old soul, gentleman's passing.  Dr. Bishop's patients and their loved ones have yet to be informed  by the office . Dr. Bishop was the greatest veterinarian we ever known. It was a blessing and an  honor to  have him take care of as our littler housed souls.  I feel a tremendous hole in our world without him... and fear for my Anubis's safety.  If his  current patients had known, if all of us who owe the health and lives of our animals knew of the memorial;  we'd be crowded out and about for miles. Good-bye, dear doctor, weeping, we will miss you and thank you, forever.  I know you are safe and will know great joy under G's wing. If anybody in this world's deserves all the goodness that there is, it is you.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my cousin George . I have not seen him for many years since he moved to California . But I have many fond memories of him when we were younger . Of many special and fun times out at the  family farm in a Marysville, with Janet , and Aunt  Mary and Uncle Roland . As well as our annual Van Atta reunions in Marysville.  

George will be missed . But his memory will remain in our hearts , always. May God be with Janet and Harvey and your family at this time.,  With much Love !

George was my cousin who I visited as a kid on his farm. I so appreciated his showing me the cows being milked, walking in the fields, getting a tractor ride,  and his love of their family farm that I always enjoyed visiting. It made perfect sense that George chose veterinary medicine to be with and help beloved animals and their owners through difficulty. I enjoyed reading all their memories.  He will be missed in our family.

A truly kind soul, George was compassionate in his approach to work and life.  His sense of humor was an effective means to endear himself to colleagues, friends, and clients. His sense of service allowed him to contribute to the greater good of society and the animals he loved. He will be missed by all that knew him and worked with him.

He was so very kind and helpful though health, injury and death.

Our deepest condolences on the loss of Dr. Bishop.  He was our veterinarian for 30+ years. Never a time when he wasn't available for an emergency phone call, office visit, boarding and hand holding during the tough times. Truly one-of-a-kind. We will miss him. May your memories comfort you in the days ahead.

My heart goes out to all of Dr. Bishop's family, friends, colleagues and clients.  He was an icon of organized veterinary medicine and a wonderful man.

George was a special friend to me and my dogs over many years! always available for advice as well as excellent care-i will miss him and the community has lost a great man!!

Here are so many things that I discovered about George Bishop once I started working for him.  He had quite a few talents that mostly remained hidden to all his clients. He was an amazing dancer, he was a pilot and his staff always joked about his driving.  We would tell him that if he left Carmel at 10:00, he would arrive in San Francisco at 10:15. He could have been a race car driver.  But my favorite characteristic was his sense of humor.  I loved playing jokes on him.  Every April Fools Day, he could expect to walk into the Animal Hospital to find a mannequin dressed as Prince William or Simon Cowell or Clay Aiken sitting in his chair, directing hospital business.  The year after I left, I received an e-mail saying that he missed the morning surprise.  
Thank you for everything George.  I learned so much from you and it was an honor and privilege to be part of your team.

Dr. George Bishop was a supernova in a constellation of stars when it came to leading the veterinary profession both in California and at the national level. His contributions are too numerous to list, but suffice it to say, very few people in the history of veterinary medicine have dedicated themselves so completely and tirelessly to the profession as George did. Words are inadequate to express our loss of an exemplary leader, a caring friend, and a good man. He will be dearly missed.

Dr Bishop and Crew lovingly saved my kitty after a terrible raccoon attack... She was due to be euthanized and they let me take her home to clean and love for 1 more night.... 
She had shown the slightest sign of improvement the next day when I returned for her "shot".... we decided to give it 1 more day....

8 years later, she was still referred to as Miracle Shadoe when she went in for her appointments...  

Dr. Bishop was such a kind spirit and will be loved by all of the animals he saved and cared for over so  many years.

Can't even express how shocked I was to hear of Dr. Bishop's passing. It brought back a flood of memories because he was the first veterinarian I ever worked with. My history in the field started with him in 88 and I have continued in the field since then. George gave everything he had to care for his four legged patients and I had a huge respect for that. Dr. Bishop has more than earned his eternal peace and once again can be with all his animal friends which I am more than certain is his idea of heaven. Reat in Peace to an AMAZING spirit.

I always got a very warm yet reserved  vibe from Dr. BISHOP. I liked him right away, and I had complete confidence  in his knowledge  about Ester. I was saddened by his passing, and wish his family well. It's a loss in my life, as men like him are unique and rare.

Dr. Bishop was my veterinarian when I was just 13 years old and he cared for my cat. Little did I know I would follow in some of his foot steps and ended up at UCDavis Veterinary School years later. I even did my surgical externship with him during the summer where I learned some valuable techniques. He has always maintained a very stable, diplomatic, and courteous energy towards the profession. Just the fact that he was open 7 days a week right up to the end was incredible. No other veterinarian has done that kind of dedicated service.
He will be missed in the community, however, many wonderful memories will also be remembered!

I feel compelled to write about a dear friend whose dedication to veterinary medicine and his close friends knew no boundaries.
George never forgot a birthday or anniversary and never let a Christmas go by without sending a gift.  His work and care for his patients and clients was inspiring.
We shared time together at the AVMA and through our noble profession. His commitment to organized veterinary medicine knew no limits. 
Two random acts of kindness that I must share that few know of.
He once offered me to move my wife and young sons to Carmel to become his partner for no cost whatsoever! My wife is still angry that we did not move from Boston. Besides, she adored George, as did I.
In 2020, during the pandemic, he decided that he and the regular group of fishing friends would not go to Alaska. I was finally able to go and he generously gifted me his share to take my younger son with me since his university decided to close for the year. It was a father-son trip of a lifetime.
George and I made friendship work, regularly reaching out to one another for almost 25 years.
Rest in peace, my brother from another mother.  I will miss you.

I first met Dr. Bishop in 1973 when our family moved here. Over the fifty years that he and the wonderful staff have been there helping us with countless pets, what struck me about him was that he was always direct and honest with me, even when I was a kid. He never talked down to me and I relied on his expertise and opinions. I’ve always felt thankful and lucky to have him and the clinic so close by, and so helpful and available. Of the countless memories, a couple stand out: my dog Daisy had to have a leg amputated because of bone cancer; she pulled through the surgery but then died shortly thereafter. She was a great favorite of some of the staff. Months later our family received a card from UC Davis veterinary school- Dr. Bishop had made a donation in her name.
In the 1990’s he saved my dog Haver from a bad case of heartworm. He told me it was the first case of it he had treated. At the time I had two jobs, one of which was part time at the local music/video store. During the weekend that Haver was at the clinic getting treated I was working a late shift at the store. Dr. Bishop came in and rented a couple of videos, then walked off in the direction of the clinic which was just across the mall. He didn’t say so but I knew he was staying there with my dog. He was a quiet and not very demonstrative person but very caring about the animals. And he loved some of my cats!

Thanks Dr Bishop will miss your gentle kindness! You helped us through a really tough time taking care of our pets while months at Stanford. Until we meet again🙏

Our community has lost a wonderful man. George was a loving and caring doctor, a pillar and leader in his profession nationwide,  and a good guy.   He already is missed.  ❤️

George was a fun guy! Dignified, yes. Often spare of word, yes. Wise, absolutely! Warm and a good friend to those he chose, yes! And he was also a lot of fun! In the relatively short time I knew him, these are the things I came to know about him. His friendship was a gift. A life well lived! Chuck, Madeline, and I are so sad to hear of George's passing.  Working at The Animal Hospital at the Crossroads was one of the best jobs I ever had.  I loved him and all my coworkers, and have so many great memories.  RIP George!

     Working for you for 13 years at the animal hospital was the best job I ever had. Still to this day, I regret leaving. I pretty much grew up there & learned so so much….my second family  for sure . ♥️
