Monterey
Our beloved mother, Concetta Montecchi, went peacefully to heaven surrounded by her family. She was born in Mondello, Sicily to Antonio and Rosalia Tarantino. During WWII, she met the love of her life, our father, Sergio and shortly thereafter they were married. Together they had three daughters. In 1955, our parents immigrated to Monterey, CA and began their life in a new country.
Known for her love of life, our mother enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved scenic drives along the coast, playing bocci, and her trips to Reno and the Del Monte Shopping Center. She had a passion for cooking and was known for her famous tortellini’s that were featured in many local restaurants. Our mom had a beautiful voice that was shared at many gatherings, especially at the Santa Rosalia Festival with the Mike Marotta Band. She was a dedicated member of the Italian Catholic Federation and a long-time parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church.
Concetta was preceded in death by her husband, Sergio; her sister, Fina Calonico, and brothers-in-law, John Catalano and Tony Calonico. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Bindel, Lia (Peter) Davi and Gabriella (Chuck) Clifton; her sister Rosa Catalano; her beloved grandchildren, David and Sergio Bindel, Jennifer Ferrante, Nicole Bristow, Danielle Cavallaro, Natalie Brewer and Chase Clifton; eleven great-grandchildren and many relatives in Italy. She was Zia Chi-chi to Billy and Mario Catalano, Maria Flaherty and John Calonico.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to her beloved caregivers, Lorenza and Rodrigo Ola. Our mother adored them and they are family to us.
Recitation of the rosary will be at The Paul Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, September 5, 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church on Wednesday September 6 at 10:00 am.
