Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. John Catholic Church with Father Fred Boni officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Schwartzkopf was born Feb. 18, 1938 in Edwardsville, Illinois to Otto Albert and Amanda Opal Schwartzkopf and lived the early years of his life there. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and later joined the U.S. Army where he was the recipient of the Bronze Star for valor for his service in Vietnam. Mr. Schwartzkopf retired after 24 years of combined military service.
In the 1970’s, he and his family moved to Ozark and he served as a military fire chief at Ft. Rucker for many years. After his military retirement, he was employed as a fireman at Ft. Rucker for 20 years. He and his wife stayed active in the community and volunteered in the ministry at Oakview Manor and at the Dale County Courthouse to assist the public. Mr. Schwartzkopf was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Christian Motorcycle Association.
He is predeceased by his parents and his wife of 47 years, Billie Joyce Schwartzkopf.
Survivors include five children, Walter Johnson of Marianna, FL, Wayne (Elyse) Wood of Newton, AL, Larry (Cathy) Lee of Cedar Rapids, IA, Erick (Cheryl) Schwartzkopf of Ozark, AL and Kevin (Mary) Schwartzkopf of McKinney, TX; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
