Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 28, 2013, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Greenwood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm until 5:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Monk was born June 28, 1927, in Ozark, AL to Ashley Lloyd and Larah Vesta Griggs Strickland. Dorothy graduated from Dale County High School in 1945 and graduated from Campbell Business College in 1946. While working she set out on many adventures with friends and family including travel to England. Dorothy received many awards and commendations from her work as a Civil Servant with the United States Army at Fort Rucker. She was well known for her dedication to her church, her family and her career.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years, Cassie Melvin Monk; her sisters, Jean Peaden and Kathryn Palmer.
Mrs. Monk is survived by her son, Mel Monk and his wife Sherry of Brundidge; step-daughters, Mary Bludsworth and her husband, Buddy and Martha Gassett and her husband, Pete, all of Skipperville; a step-son, Wayne Monk and his wife Christine of Weston, Colorado; also surviving are several nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
