Mrs. Anderson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothea (Keeler) Farrell. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and the Lakewood School of Practical Nursing.
Most of her professional career was spent as an emergency room and surgical nurse at Dale County Medical Center in Ozark.
Mrs. Anderson put down what would turn out to be permanent roots in Ozark in 1970 after her husband, SFC Earnest David Anderson, received orders for a third tour of duty in Vietnam. At the time, he was stationed at Fort Rucker.
Survivors include daughters Diane Marie (Matt) Snyder, Patricia Lee Anderson, both of Ozark; Karen Louise (Paul) Lugen of Prattville, Al.; Kathryn Therese (David) Jahn of Trophy Club, Texas; a son, Lawrence Richard (Tammy) Anderson of Blythewood, South Carolina; a brother, Richard (Suzanne) Farrell of Dover, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and many additional family members that she “adopted” over the years.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and a brother.
Mrs. Anderson was happiest when surrounded by family members at her home’s pool in the summer, and when they assembled in her home during other holidays. Nearly all members of the family helped her celebrate Christmas 2017 at her home in Ozark.
