February 25, 1941 - January 1, 2015 Raymond Ruben Guerra 73, peacefully passed away on New Years Day - January 1, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Oxnard, Calif. Dad was born in Boyle Heights, Calif on Feb 25, 1941 to Ruben F. & Mary Fimbres Guerra. A few years later his sister Olivia would join the family. Dad was raised in East Los Angeles and attended Cathedral & Theodore Roosevelt High Schools. On March 3, 1962 He married the love of this life, Lauretta Hernandez also from East Los Angeles at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and began their lives together. Sharing 52 years together, their beautiful union grew quickly and the Lord blessed them with 8 girls and 3 boys, a total of 11 children. He was employed with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as a counselor at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello when he was offered a position as Superintendent at Santa Clara Cemetery & Mausoleum in Oxnard, and so in 1973 the Guerra's moved to Oxnard, Calif to begin their new life. He retired from the Archdiocese after 30 years of service, dad had a very soothing voice, he could comfort in the simplest, purest way. He counseled the grieving and buried the dead for so many years so selflessly. Something we are so very proud of. Dad had several various interests. Ranging from Scottish bagpipes, mini ocean cruises, Wyatt Earp to of course, his hero - John Wayne. He loved The LA Dodgers, almost any World War II movie and he had all the classics. Before the invention of VCR & DVD, Veterans Day & Memorial Days were torture because dad owned the TV for the John Wayne Marathon, Tora Tora Tora, Iwo Jima, Patton, etc. he loved WWII airshows, trips to Bisbee & Tombstone Arizona , battleship tours, and getting to ride an old WWII bomber. He also had an equal passion for antique rifles and pistols, particularly those used in the "Old West". Dad loved the Old West and would take us on yearly vacations since we were small. And of course, in his words a love for "good old fashioned music 'my folks' could dance to." As the kids grew & left the nest, Dad & Mom embarked on a few overseas pilgrimages, where they would develop their deeper attachment to Padre Pio. He would say Padre helped him coping with the loss of their daughter Theresa Marie in 2000. He loved spending time with this many grandchildren, each having their own nickname from "Grandpa Haircup". Raymond is reunited in heaven with his daughter Theresa Marie aka Pookie & his dad "Chon" aka Grandpa Ruben. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years Lauretta, his daughters and sons, Irene, Nancy, Elizabeth, Laura, Mariebernadette, Jude, Damian, Joseph, Monica & Danielle, his loving mother Mary Fimbres Guerra, and his sister Olivia Rodriguez both of Victorville, Calif., 27 grandchildren & 22 great grandchildren, and many cousins nieces & nephews.
