Michael Joseph Roth, of Overland Park, Kansas, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on September 2, 2018. Mike was born on October 19, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Mary V. (Murry) Roth and Robert W. Roth. He was a 1966 graduate of Bishop Miege High School and attended the University of Missouri - Kansas City. He spent the first part of his career working for IBM in St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, MO and Los Angeles, CA from 1970 - 1991 before moving to The Walking Company/Big Dogs Sportswear in Santa Barbara, CA. Mike retired in 2010 and moved to Lee’s Summit, MO to enjoy the lights of his life, his two grandchildren, where he rarely missed a baseball game or a dance competition. Mike was an avid sports lover and fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He also had a passion for music and enjoyed reuniting with his high school band members. He loved baseball at all levels and spent a few years of his retirement umpiring 7 and 8 year old games for the Lee’s Summit Baseball Association.
Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Roth and Neil Roth; and sister, Therese Roth. He is survived by his son, Bob Roth of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Andrea Turner and husband, Lee, of Lee’s Summit, MO; sisters, Sandy Farris and husband, Kenny, of Overland Park, KS, Patty Redman and husband, Keith, of Grove, OK, Mary K Ossell of Minneapolis, MN, and Jeanne Janson of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Zach Turner and Katelyn Turner both of Lee’s Summit, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael’s visitation will be held 6-8pm, Thursday, September 6th at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, Overland Park, KS. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am, Friday, September 7th at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, KS.
