Edith “Marilyn” (Seitz) Hays, 86, of Overland Park, KS passed away October 12, 2022 at Crown Care in Harrisonville, MO. She was born December 12, 1935 in Jenkins, MO to Rual and Lydia (Koch) Seitz, the youngest of five daughters. She went to high school in Galena, MO.
While visiting her cousins she met a tall good-looking guy named Ralph Hays. When Ralph returned to his home in Stilwell, KS they kept the US Postal Service gainfully employed by the exchange of many letters between the two. Ralph was joined in marriage to Marilyn Seitz on February 22, 1952 in Crane, MO and to this union three children were born: Robin, Lisa and Scot.
After their marriage, they spent a short time living in Stilwell, KS, Kansas City, MO and finally purchasing a home in Overland Park, KS in 1959. Marilyn spent many years working as a waitress at John Francis Restaurant and later working at Remel Laboratory in Lenexa, KS until her retirement.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her four sisters, Jewel as an infant, Furl Branstetter, Myrl Toler and Fern Barnes; daughter, Lisa Voorhies; and recently, her husband after 70 years of marriage, Ralph Hays passed on September 6, 2022.
She is survived by her children, Robin Erwin (Jim) of Harrisonville, MO and Scot Hays (Melody) of Wichita, KS; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Hester, Eric Brunk (Jaclyn), Craig Brunk, Joshua Voorhies, Jacob Voorhies (Jennifer), Amanda Ruby (Eric) and Kori Hays; and 11 great grandchildren, Ty Rustici, Gianna Rustici, Brandon Hester, Landon Brunk, Preston Brunk, Ethan Brunk, Elisa Brunk, Savannah Voorhies, Isiah Voorhies, Izabella Voorhies and Scarlett Voorhies.
A visitation for Marilyn will be held Friday, October 21, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Great Plains SPCA, Attn: Development, 5428 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202.
