Kay was born in Helena, Montana on October 1, 1928. She graduated from high school in Arcadia, Kansas then married the love of her life, Johnnie Velton Carpenter on May 18, 1947. At one time she was the secretary at The First Baptist Church of Overland Park where she was a member since 1957. She also worked as a proofreader for ten years at Deluxe Check Printers. Some of her favorite hobbies were sewing, quilting and reading. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband for many years after retirement.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Adaline Oxford; two brothers Ralph and Robert; and a sister Hazel Landrum.
Kay is survived by four daughters, Patti (Craig) Carr of Kansas City, Missouri, Sharon (Jim) Maisch of Overland Park, Kansas, Sandra Carpenter of Overland Park, Kansas and Linda (Tom) Anderson of Overland Park, Kansas, five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly.
