James (Jim) Losher, 85, of Denver, Colorado, gained his angel wings on January 2, 2024. He passed away from lung fibrosis (ILD) in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by family. He will be forever loved and remembered.
He was born in Rogers, Arkansas, November 27, 1938, the youngest of four children and was blessed with a happy childhood. The family moved to Roeland Park, Kansas when he was in elementary school. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School, Class of 1957. He was a part of the cross country track team and maintained his interest in Track and Field throughout his life, attending prominent events. He attended Kansas University, where he majored in accounting and was a big Jayhawk’s fan. He built his career in the retail grocery industry, where he was the proud owner of a large store in Ozark, Missouri. He befriended regular customers, and his children fondly remember the perks of “free” pop and candy! He later relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he landed his dream job as VP of Associated Grocers. He loved the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and enjoyed frequent family getaways there. In his later years, he found a second career, where he discovered how much he loved working with clients as a realtor. He gained many referrals due to his honesty, integrity, and friendly personality.
Jim’s dedication to his family was admired by all who knew him. He treasured each member of his family. He enjoyed family trips, happy hours, and playful interactions with his grandchildren. His homemade pina coladas and ice cream sundaes were looked forward to by all! Jim loved his friends. If you were blessed enough to know Jim, you know the many qualities that made him a true friend!
Aside from his family, Jim’s biggest passion in life was music. He was born into a musical family. His mother lovingly played the piano, and his cousins were talented singers, drummers, and guitarists. Jim was a naturally gifted pianist and songwriter, as well as an amazing singer. He entertained with a variety of songs from jazz to Elvis songs to Johnny Matthis. “Misty” and “Blue Suede Shoes” were a couple favorites. In his early years, he played around the Kansas City area with his band. He cut several records, including “Little Marlyn” which he wrote for his high school sweetheart. He performed in numerous musicals with the Trilogy Players in Arizona, where he spent his winters. In addition, Jim wrote songs for his high school reunions for Shawnee Mission North, Class of 1957. When Jim wasn’t singing, he enjoyed beautifying his yard, traveling, playing Video Poker, watching old classics on television, and playing Bridge. He especially delighted in getting together with friends.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife for 65 years, Marlyn; his three children - Steve (Jeanine), Crystal (Doug), and Lori (Steve); grandchildren - Shawn (Brandi), Amy (T.J.), Karissa, Shayne, Lindsey, Sara (Erik), and Katie; and great-grandchildren - Madison, Leah, Haili, Kamryn, and Terrance. Jim’s children would like to thank their mother, who lovingly and tirelessly cared for their father during his last months in home hospice care. Thank you to all of Jim’s family and friends. You all had a big piece of his heart!
