Jacqueline Gail “Jackie” Smith, age 89, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Sunflower House with Care Haven Homes - Assisted Memory Care facility, peacefully in her sleep.
Jackie was born on October 19, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri to Henry and Eva Wagenknecht and grew up in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Jackie developed strong leadership skills during her high school years, serving as editor of the school newspaper, cheerleader, plays produced by her drama department and Valedictorian. She was an active member of Grinter Chapel Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher. She married Frank Smith in 1953 and was married for 62 years until his death. Jackie and Frank were grade school sweethearts. She was a legal secretary for over 45 years. Jackie was a wife and mother of three sons and one daughter. Her husband, Frank was a machinist at Honeywell International for over 47 years. She was a huge KC Royals fan, loved traveling, reading, and most of all her family.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Henry Wagenknecht; her daughter, Kimberly Smith; sister, Terri Bennett; sister, Jane Vickers; and her husband, Frank Smith.
Jackie is survived by her children, Jeff, Jerry, and Jason Smith; her sisters, JoAnn Eyerly and Linda Breidenthal; her brothers, James Wagner and Tim Wagner; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
A visitation for Jackie will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2023, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas. Her committal service will immediately follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery, 801 Sheidley Avenue, Bonner Springs, Kansas 66012.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
