Jacquelin L. Strickland, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. She died peacefully at her home in Overland Park, KS. She was born in Layland, West Virginia on September 8, 1941 to Willard Saunders and Della May Humphreys Gill. As the third of seven children, she had a life full of stories. She cherished her family and although she lived her adult life in other areas of the country, she never forgot her roots. Layland and the mountains of West Virginia held a special place in her heart.
After graduating high school, Jackie moved to Virginia to work and eventually married and had two daughters. She dedicated her life to the love and care of her girls and is profoundly missed by both.
As each of her granddaughters were born, her heart expanded. She delighted in them and in being their Nonnie. She deeply loved and was very proud of both of them.
An avid reader, she loved mysteries and she loved learning. The library was one of her favorite places. She also enjoyed seeing and doing new things and was always up for adventure.
She is survived by her two daughters, Candace Strickland and Kimberly Cook; son-in-law, David Cook; granddaughters, Katelyn and Julie Cook; and sisters, Barbara Shetley and Bonnie Carter. She also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death is her father, Willard Gill; mother, Della Gill; sisters, Patricia Weaver, Peggy Heiser, and Donna Clark; and brother, Toby Gill. She never forgot any of their birthdays and though she did not live near them, she prayed for and sang Happy Birthday in honor of each one.
Family was the most important thing to her and the best gift she could have given us is the knowledge that she knew her Savior and she is with Him now.
A private family graveside service for Jackie will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
