Dear Aunt Helen- the pictures that I posted are from the last time I got to see you, at my surprise birthday lunch.  I was so grateful for everyone that was there, but seeing you, Uncke Bill, Betsy and Jane really touched me-that you would drive so far in a day just for a lunch for me.  I still tear up thinking about it.  I know you were tired when you left, and my having to tell you goodbye in your car so that you could have your oxygen-is a cherished memory I will never forget. 
When I was younger, you and your family were the special family members because you lived in that far off elusive place, Kansas.  It remember when you visited I always thought what a great mom because you were quiet, soft spoken and never yelled at your kids, despite there being so many and some chaos. I realized now, as a mom, that some of that was “in public, best mom behavior” but I admired it none-the-less. 
Also, I remember Aunty, that every time I saw you , you were pregnant. Or at least it seemed like it to young me.  I’m glad I didn’t know where babies came from then, or I certainly would have been giving you the eye. 😂
I know you didn’t want a service or anything showie.  But, I think you would have been proud today.  The mass and sentiments shared were beautiful, and my waterworks started watching your grandchildren bringing up flowers  to honor their grandma. I sat behind your family and was able to spend time looking at them. What a fine group of children, children in law, grands and great grands you have!! Your legacy will live on thru them and all the wonderful ways you touched their lives. 
And so, you made it to the party of Heaven before us.  How wonderful it must have been when your soul met your Savior and you reunited with your passed loved ones. I am comforted k owing that you will be on of my greeters when my time comes, and one day we will be resurrected and reunited  with our perfect selves to live for eternity together!! Until then,  know you are loved  & missed

Helen and I have lived on the same block for 51 years. Our kids grew up together.  After we both retired from work, we spent time together going to Estate and garage sales to find a bargain. My favorite time was going out to lunch and morning coffee time with Sue. So many wonderful memories. I will really miss my dear friend.

I keep trying to write a memory notice but nothing I write can represent my mom.  She taught me to bake.  And after she deemed me competent, I spent hours in the kitchen baking off the Christmas cookies she mixed and dipping her famous peanut butter balls.  Despite this, I still love making cookies.  She spent much of her life at sporting events for one of her kids.  I can still hear her yelling E6 at my brother from the stands when he missed a play at Shortstop. 😉  Her expectations were high because she knew we could achieve them.   My mom had a great sense of humor and she could always make me laugh.  She and Dad gave me my love for playing cards and games.  I remember fitting all 10 of us around the table for a game of “Books”.  I also remember them playing Bridge with their friends while all the kids played outside or upstairs.  We looked forward to those nights as much as she did.   Mom always believed in me even when I didn’t think I could do something.  And she always made my daughter feel special when we visited.  Mom’s love language was definitely gifts as she always made us kids a big Christmas and when you visited she was always trying to send you home with something.   After mom passed my daughter and I each wrapped up with a knitted blanket she had given us.  My daughter said “it’s like a hug from Grandma!”  It’s hard to believe that’s the only kind of hug I will get from her from now on.  I love you to the Moon and back Mom!

Prayers to you and your family. We are friends with Mike and Christine.  She sounds like a wonderful lady.

I have so many wonderful memories of our 39 year friendship , lunches , dinners, playing cards celebrating our children’s weddings grand kids graduation parties but most of all just talking on the phone each day. She was the sweetest person I know and we shared many good laughs I will miss you always Helen but plan to see you one day again❤️

My grandma was a wonderful person and in a way a second mother to me growing up. In the mornings when I was in elementary school you could find her quizzing me on my spelling words before breakfast, and often times her and grandpa would play jump rope with me before school as well. During the warmer months we would watch the hummingbirds in their backyard to pass the time, and when it rained we would sit under their front awning and play hot potato. I’m lucky I’ve spent most of my life around the corner from her and will miss our weekly dinners together catching up, sharing jokes and playing card games. Helen Schmit was not only the best grandma, but she was also a caring friend, loving mother and devoted wife. She was happily married for 66 years to the love of her life, and I aspire to have a long lasting love like them. Grandma may you rest in peace. I could really never get enough of you.

The keenest and most ruthless card player ever!  Never let me get away with just one plate of food at a family gathering. She will be missed.

As a son in law, Helen welcomed me into the family and I appreciated that.  She loved her family and big family events.  Our holiday bingos were filled with laughs and great prizes
