Sheila O'Connor

Passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Ottawa. Beloved wife of the late James C. (Jim), mother of Michael (Lesley) and Sean (Christine), and grandma to Owen, Devon, Colin and Maeve. Aunt to Lynn Brodie whose love she cherished like a daughter's. Loving sister of Sister Barbara Keane C.N.D. Sister in-law to Margaret Downey (the late Joe), Wilfred O’Connor (Jean) and the late Stafford O’Connor. Predeceased by her parents Edward and Esther Keane, her sisters June Brodie (the late Steve), Lorna Donaldson (the late Keith) and her brother Kevin ( the late Joan). Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews on both the Keane and O'Connor sides of the family but especially Sharon whose care and support meant so much to her. Sheila's childhood was spent growing up in Sandy Hill and at the cottage in Old Chelsea. She attended Notre Dame and the University of Ottawa's School of Nursing before joining the emergency room team at the Ottawa General Hospital. She loved being a nurse but her passion and calling was in being a Mom to "my two boys" and best friend to her loving husband Jim. Throughout her 87 years, Sheila made cherished friendships that lasted a lifetime. Sheila would have wanted you to hug a friend, help someone in need or comfort a child and above all else to be happy. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the care team at St. Vincent's Hospital especially Linda. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to S.C.O Elisabeth Bruyère Pavilion, 43 Bruyère St. Ottawa ON K1N 5C8. Visitation at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Rd. at Abion Rd. on Thursday May 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass Friday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Interment Notre Dame Cemetery.
