May 3, 1968 - February 4, 2023
Our sweet brother, John, passed into the arms of the Lord after a life-long struggle with the ravages and complications of myotonic dystrophy. He leaves to mourn his family, sister Karen and her husband, Dave Chick, and sister Laurie and her husband, Bruce Di Labio. He was also the very proud and attentive uncle to Benjamin, Allison (Simon Beauchemain), Matthew and Andrea Chick and Julie-Anne and Benjamin Di Labio. Delighted and beaming great-uncle to Nolan Hull and Théodore Beauchemin. Also left to mourn is John's special extended Christian Horizons family - both residents and staff who loved and supported John for decades. He was so fortunate to have been in their care. John's very close friends, Peter Nolan and Kirsten also join us in mourning his loss. They both brought such joy to his life. John was a man who loved his sports, most fervently, the Ottawa Senators, and his video games, movies, word puzzles and books. He was a polite, kind, considerate, humorous and gentle person who managed the constant deterioration of his abilities without complaint. He was an inspiration for our family, a teacher in our lives. He was deeply loved.
Visitation to take place on May 3, 2023, 10 a.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home (1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa), followed by a Memorial service in the funeral home chapel at 11am. A reception will follow. Cremation has taken place. In Lieu of flowers, donations to Christian Horizons (McLean’s Residence) would be greatly appreciated.
