Joan Rooney

It is with heart felt sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Rooney, who died peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the age of 79, with her family at her side. Predeceased by her parents Loretta and Carl Fairbairn, daughter Karyn, sister Anne Fairbairn and brother Bill Fairbairn. Joan leaves behind her loving husband Paul Rooney and grateful family that includes her children Sean (Estelle), Mary, David (Sharon), Susan, Jeffrey (Jane) and Jennifer (Jordan), Stephen Yurack and her grandchildren Lisa (Gary), William, Sarah, James, Christine, Catherine, Caroline, Liam, Jack, Megan, Kiera, Finn and Ellie, and her great- granddaughter Kenzie. Joan is survived by her sisters Catherine Fairbairn and Dora Gouthro (Jake) and brothers Robert Fairbairn (Doreen) and Bert Fairbairn (Jane). Joan was a loving and devoted wife and mother who touched many lives through her acts of kindness, words of wisdom and selfless love. God has you in His keeping. We have you in our hearts. The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Fallowfield Church, 15 Steeple Hill Crescent on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 2 P.M. We would like to express our appreciation to the Palliative Care teams at the Ottawa General Hospital and the Friends of Hospice at the Embassy West for their care and compassion.
