Gerald Davies Cann passed away peacefully on Monday October 18, 2021 in Ottawa at the age of 93. Gerry is predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Thornber) and his brother Bob. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Powell (husband Fred), and his daughters Nancy Murray (husband Stuart, granddaughters Emily and Jennifer), Janet Cann (husband Mike Brzozowski, granddaughter Sophie, grandson Maximilian) and sons, David and Don.
Gerry was an avid reader, story teller and writer (a poet as well!). He is a Cold War veteran serving with the RCAF in Europe and at Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Gerry had a passion for life, the outdoors and for meeting everyone and anyone. He was a published author in Legion Magazine and the Friends of the Canadian War Museum Newsletter.
He, and his wife Jean, were involved with the Ottawa Savoy Society for many years. Jean and Gerry were committed members of Bells Corners United Church and in their communities they lived. After his military service, Gerry launched a career in life insurance and later with a law publishing company (CCH) as a Government Liaison Officer and a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery.
A memorial service for Gerry will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 2 pm at Bells Corners United Church, 3955 Old Richmond Road, Nepean, ON. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the National War Museum or the Royal Canadian Legion.
