It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Filomena Tavares, who left this world surrounded by her loved ones on December 4, 2024 at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal she was the daughter of the late Antonio Vasconcelos and of the late Maria do Santo Cristo Vasconcelos. She was the beloved spouse of the late Eduino Tavares and the loving mother of Maria dos Anjos (Eduardo) Viveiros, Maria (Carlos) Da Silva, Gilberta (Nelson) Alberto, Filomena (Julien) Huneault, Victor, Carlos (Julie) and Ana Maria.
Filomena was the adored grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Antonio (Tony) as well as her 4 brothers.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Geriatric and Palliative care departments of the Civic Hospital. Their care, empathy and professionalism is greatly appreciated.
Visitations will be held at Racine, Robert & Gauthier Funeral Home (180 Montreal Road, Ottawa, Ontario) on Friday December 13th from 5PM until 9PM.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday December 14th at 9AM at Senhor Santo Cristo Church (1100 Kenaston Street, Ottawa, Ontario).
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Filomena’s name to the Ottawa Food Bank would be greatly appreciated.
