"The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among her followers, gives not of her wisdom but rather of her faith and her lovingness. If she is indeed wise, she does not bid you enter the house of her wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind." - Gibran
Eleanor passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, on November 2, 2022. She spent the final years of her life at the Glebe Centre in Ottawa, where she received excellent care. The family wishes to thank all the staff for making her as comfortable as could be.
She will be missed dearly by her three sons Stephen, Peter and David Landsberg, their partners, Karen Reedman, Kim Landsberg and Mona M. Barakat; her beloved sisters Ruth (Dowden) and Leslie (Millson-Taylor); six devoted grandchildren; a great granddaughter and a brand-new great grandson.
She was pre-deceased by her infant daughter Jennifer, sister Catherine, daughters in-law Alison (Thom), Gaye (Savage) and parents William Albert and Rita Mary Millson.
Eleanor grew up in in the Lansing neighborhood, North York district, City of Toronto. She attended Earl Haig Secondary School where she met her husband, the late John Alan Landsberg. They moved to Ottawa in 1962 and raised three active boys without posting bail once.
Eleanor was initially a homemaker, then went to teacher’s college and became a teacher and librarian with the OCDSB. An avid reader herself, she passed that trait on to us and there was an endless flow of books that landed in our hands. She was proud of her career, constantly upgrading her credentials and navigating many changes until she retired.
She was an avid sewer and gardener, and by necessity a culinary whirlwind who, thankfully, was passionate about nutrition. She was skilled at interior decorating, crafts, Tai Chi, skiing and skating. She taught us all how to skate and enjoyed every opportunity to strap on her speed skates and glide along the frozen canal.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON, followed by a celebration of her life in the chapel.
