Richard L. Twigg 80, formerly of Ossian departed this life, Friday March 15, 2013 at his home in Melbourne, Florida. He was born on August 30, 1932 in Fort Wayne. He spent his childhood in Indiana and graduated from Elmhurst High School prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. He honorably served his county for the next 20 years; including deployments in Korea, the Philippine Islands and Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He retired from the Air Force while living in Upper Michigan and taught grade school in Marquette until 1990. He eventually moved back to Ossian, Indiana with his wife Doris. They enjoyed summers in Indiana and winters in Florida. He was a member of numerous Lutheran congregations over the years, serving the Lord faithfully throughout his life. He enjoyed many things but playing golf was his passion. When he wasn’t golfing he could be found carving wood, skeet shooting or reading a novel. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, spending the last few falls fishing with his sons in Washington State. He wasn’t very good at it but loved doing it and spending time with family. He spent his last Christmas with his daughter’s family in the Boston area, enjoying the company of his four grandsons. He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Susan (Tom) Wisnieski; grandsons Zack, Kyle, Ben and Nick all of Mansfield, Massachusetts, sons; Tom (Trish) Twigg of Corvallis, Oregon, Theodore (Kathleen) Twigg of Aberdeen, Washington, Todd Twigg of Bellevue, Washington, a sister; Mary Lou (Bill) Arnold of Kentucky and many other friends and relatives in the Fort Wayne area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Doris (Zelt) and in laws; Vera and Harold Bleke, Edie (Larry) Nevers, Raymond ( Deloris) Zelt and Bill (Mary Lou) Arnold.
