William Sam John Smith

(GM retiree 1982 – 39 years of service)

Peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 5th, 2014 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in his 88th year. Predeceased by his loving wife Olga (June 2010). Loving father of Lynn Jones (Ross) and David Smith (Kathy). Cherished Puppy of Leah, Aaron, Jordan and Jenna. Great-grandfather of Makayla and Alyssa. Sam is predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Elsie, father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anne and Steve. Sam’s kind spirit and great sense of humour will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his passion and participation in hockey, softball, golf and curling. In fact, he was inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame and made an Honourary Life Member of the Oshawa Curling Club. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff of 7C at Lakeridge Health Oshawa for taking care of Sam and his family. Arrangements entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). As per Sam’s wishes, cremation and a private family service will take place. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted for Lakeridge Health Oshawa Foundation.
