I was so sad to hear of the passing of Louise, or Mrs Hughes to me.  As a piano student of Mrs. Hughes's I spent every Wednesday afternoon for 12 years at the piano in the basement of her house, doing something I loved, guided by Louise's gentle, kind and encouraging voice.  Her passion for teaching and her love for her students was very evident and we felt the same back. On reflection I realise I can credit so much of what I am to her wonderful warm presence in my life - I really loved her.  She celebrated all my successes, not just those at the piano, and I knew in her I had a loving cheerleader.  It is a great regret that I did not stay in touch with her more as the years passed, but I did think of her and Elwin often, particularly every time I visited Wales.   Everyone who knew her was so blessed to have her in their lives.  I can only express my deepest sympathies to all of her family and hope that the memories of her will warm you in the days, months and years to come.   God Bless.

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of both Louise and Elwyn. Louise taught my daughters piano many years ago and from time to time thereafter we would meet for tea. Reverend Hughes precided over the weddings of all 3 of my daughters.  He was a kind gentleman with a great sense of humor.  Please accept my deepest sympathy 

Louise and Elwyn came into the local Swiss Chalet every week where I worked for years. Louise had the warmest, kindest heart and was one of the most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. Elwyn had the greatest smile and laugh I’d ever heard. I am greatful to have served them and to have experienced their kindness for the time that I did. My heart goes out to the families and communities who are grieving them at this time. How blessed we all are to have experienced their presence on this earth.

May the words of comfort Louise once shared with me help bring comfort to her friends and family;

Rejoice in the times you had together . Those times created memories which will stay with you always. Her physical presence is no longer here, but her memories will forever be with you.

I treasure the memories I have of Louise and Elwyn and am so grateful they were present in my life and the lives of so many.

How incredibly sad to learn that Louise Hughes  has passed within days of the death of her beloved husband, the Rev. Elwyn Hughes!  The members and friends of Dewi Sant Welsh United Church remember both of them with many fond and beautiful memories.  Rev. Elwyn was our beloved minister from 1965 – 1974.  The warmth and vibrancy of his dear wife’s smile as she warmly greeted us on Sunday mornings was unforgettable. They were a team par excellence.  Until very recently, when health issues altered their activities, Louise and Elwyn faithfully attended Dewi Sant for numerous special events.
Our deep sympathy and prayers are extended to the members of the Hughes family as they mourn this tragic loss.

As a child growing up on Dittmer Crescent, I was blessed to have Louise, this talented woman, my dear neighbour, and friend, give me piano lessons for 10 years. 

She taught many many children to play the piano. It was an opportunity of a lifetime. I appreciate knowing I can read music and play the piano today. Her memory lives on. 

My mother would describe the beautiful piano music wafting through the air as she walked by Louise’s house. She would stop and linger and listen and daydream with her two babies in tow. 

My father played guitar, and at Christmas, he and “Louis” would get together to have some honky-tonk fun. 
We all loved it. What a gift. What a bright spot she was in my life.

Aunt Louise has a special place in my heart, she will be missed.

We here at Swiss Chalet in Whitby are just absolutely devastated to the hear the news of Louis and Elwyn. The were and still are part of our Swiss family and they will be missed so much they would come in twice a week with their sweet smiles and words of wisdom and encouragement for at least the past 10 years.
We are going to miss this amazing couple with all of our hearts and wish the family our deepest condolences.

Louise and I were Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers to some of the same children. The last time I spoke to her was to congratulate her on our latest great grandchild.  She and Elwyn will be missed by many. May their memory be a blessing.

Losing Elwyn and Louise days apart is devastating for the families.  May God keep you in His care as you grieve.  Louise always made you feel she was truly delighted to see and visit with you.  

Gwyneth and all family members .... who would have thought last week that Louise would follow Elwyn so soon?  Louise was such a gentle and wonderful lady and kind to all and in all respects.  She was a dedicated wife, mother musician and friend to everyone.  Our hearts and thoughts go out to all of you as you remember both Louise and Elwyn.  Both have helped and supported many here on earth and I'm sure they'll be the same in their heavenly home. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Louise.   Louise was a colleague and friend through our membership with  the Oshawa & District ORMTA -  registered teachers association.   She was always so supportive of everyone and her positive influence and knowledge was appreciated by so many.

I am so sad for you as you deal with the deaths of both Louise and Rev. Elwyn. They made the world a better place. I am thankful that our paths crossed and I will always remember them and their kindness and wisdom.  I wish you peace as you recall precious memories…..

I was so sorry to hear of Louise's passing, so soon after Elwyn.  They were both very good friends to my son Andrew and I while he was growing up, and I will always consider both of them good friends.
