James Edward Lavelle

James Edward Lavelle passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at the age of 61. Beloved husband of Mary Lavelle (nee Marks). Dear son of Robert and the late Mary Lavelle of Niagara Falls. Loving father of Andrea Lavelle and her partner Michelle Crosbie and Jeff Lavelle and his fiancé Monique Skelton. Predeceased by his brother Robert Lavelle (1970). Jim was President and CEO of Whitby Hydro Energy Corporation and Past Chair of the Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation as well as Past President of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce. Jim was honoured in 2010 to be the recipient of the Peter Perry Award honouring Whitby’s outstanding citizen of the year, recognizing his commitment to the Whitby community. He was the recipient of Rotary International’s prestigious Paul Harris Award for his leadership and his humanitarian care for people internationally and in his community. Jim was a very recognized and respected leader in his professional career in the electrical industry, receiving numerous commendations and awards for his ongoing contributions. Jim was an avid golfer and member of the Oshawa Golf Club, serving on numerous committees and organizing many events. Jim was a coach and mentor to numerous young athletes in many minor hockey and baseball associations. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Thursday, February 24th from 6-9 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Friday, February 25th at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation or a charity of your choice.
