With extreme sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Christine Vella at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital on October 22nd, 2023 at the age of 74. She will be eternally missed by her soul mate Victor, her daughter Deborah, son Michael and her 4 grandchildren. She will also be fondly remembered by Victor’s siblings, Vince Vella, Esther Brown, Joe Vella and Mario Vella as well as her cousin Gino Loni (Val).
Chris was born in Germany in 1948, and in 1950 emigrated to Canada with her mother Hermine (nee Shultz) and father Jerzy Abramowicz. She was raised in St Thomas Ontario, where she later met and married the love of her life, Victor. They would have been married 54 years this December. They moved to Oshawa in 1969, where Chris later pursued a career with the Royal Bank. She went on to have two children Deborah and Michael and 4 grandchildren, Holland, Haven, Havanna and Havelin.
Chris’s love for her family was like no other. Her husband Victor was the love of her life and she treasured the life they created together. Although her daughter Debbie moved away to the KW area many years ago, she always kept in touch with her via phone; almost daily. She was, and always will be Debbie’s biggest fan. She was a caregiver along with her husband, to their son Michael. Providing for him the best life they could, always loving and protecting him. Chris and Victor were also very active in Sunrise Developmental Social Services. Volunteering, and developing a support system for themselves and Michael. Chris was truly proud of both of her children.
Chris was a social butterfly and had a gift for the “gab”. She made friends everywhere she went. She had a vibrant personality, and was known for her generosity and warm-hearted nature. She had a great sense of humour and could make anyone feel comfortable around her. She was a listener and a wonderful friend. She was a genuine person. Chris was very creative and artistic, often selling her crafts each year at the Eastdale Craft Show amongst many other shows. She also had a love for gardening and would flood her home inside and out, with the beauty of flowers. More recently, Chris took up walking at the local walking track. This was her passion, her obsession. You would often find her there 5 or 6 mornings each week, logging as many steps as she could around the track. She wanted to be healthier, and live as long as she could.
Chris was an extraordinary woman. She loved deeply, was loved by many, and will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, humour, dedication and spirit have imprinted on the hearts of many. She was truly one of a kind.
Visitation will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Friday October 27 from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held the chapel on Saturday October 28 at 1:30 p.m.
