Virginia “Goo” Roney passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023, in Ormond Beach, FL, at the age of 88. She will be lovingly remembered by her family. Dear mother to Marcia (Fred) Marker of The Colony, Texas; Brian Roney of Ormond Beach, Florida; Alicia (Ashley) Roney of Ormond-by-the-Sea, Florida; and (partially claimed daughter) Kimberly (Becca) Greene-Graver of Ormond Beach, Florida. Loving grandmother to Adam (Lizzy) Marker of Texas; Cassidy Roney of New York; as well as Mason, Addison, and Lola Roney of Florida. Virginia is survived by her best friend and sister, Suzanne Greene of South Carolina. As an aunt, she was also fond of her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Walter “Mason” and Hazel Streett, her husband Bob Roney, son Ronnie Roney, and brother Walter “Wally” Streett.
Virginia was born in Florence, South Carolina, and moved to Florida in 1966 to be closer to her parents. She initially worked in banks handling commercial loans until 1989. At that time, she went back to school at DBCC to eventually become an LPN. She went on to work for Florida Health Care in Daytona Beach as an LPN for over 20 years.
Virginia was an avid gardener, animal-lover (especially cats), and collector of antiques. Other favorites of hers included Mexican food with EXTRA sour cream and two margaritas (…but not three). She was well known for her chicken and rice, as well as her charm, humor, and sweet disposition. By sharing her southern and witty sayings, referred to as “goo-isms,” her family and friends will continue to keep her memory alive. She was one-of-a-kind and will be truly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Paradise Pointe and Halifax Hospice for their care and support.
In remembrance of Virginia “Goo” Roney, a viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 6, from 3-6 PM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, at 1:30 PM.
Flower arrangements are welcome. However, Goo was an avid supporter of the Halifax Humane Society. If you feel moved to donate in her honor, please visit https://www.halifaxhumanesociety.org/donate/index or donate to an animal charity of your choice.
