Joan Rittenour

Joan Rittenour, 85, of Holly Hill, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013. She was born April 16, 1927 in Latrobe, PA to Lawrence and Lillian Grace Bates. She married Thomas Rittenour and in 1961 they moved to Port Orange before settling in Holly Hill. After raising her children she spent several years babysitting for others, and then worked as a Publix demo clerk for ten years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, shopping, and watching football; especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Iris. She is survived by her husband Thomas, sons Thomas (Maureen) of Mulberry, FL, Fred of Holly Hill, Lonnie (Sylvia), Don (Mandy) and Jeff (Renee) of Ormond Beach, grandchildren Missy Bowers, Cheryl Hall, Amanda “Joni” (Ricky) Byrd, Heather Stewart, Corey, Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Joshua Rittenour, 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister Helen Schirf of AZ.

The family will receive friends at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 from 9:00-10:00AM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 with a funeral service to follow at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Florida Hospital Hospice Care, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 304, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
