Loved and respected by all who knew him, Harry Edwin Zechman, 93, of Pelican Bay Drive, Daytona Beach, FL died October 14, 2013. He was the husband of Margaret B. (his beloved “Peggy”) Zechman from 2001 until the time of his death. Born in Middleburg, PA, he was the sixth of nine children of the late Alda Catherine (Good) and William Henry Zechman and was preceded in death by his eight siblings. Harry was the founder and Chairman of the Board for the Diamond Group, Inc. of Baltimore, MD and their subsidiaries: Blue Diamond Co., Beverage Transportation, E&M Express, H&K Equipment, Chesapeake Freight Brokers and Pulaski Highway Realty, for more than 65 years, Harry was Treasurer of the Maryland Motor Truck Association as well as receiving the esteemed Maryland Motor Truck Association’s “Man of the Year” in 1984. Harry and his first beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Virginia (Beachel) Zechman, who preceded him in death, moved to Florida from Baltimore in 1975. He was an Army 8th Air Force Veteran of World War II from 1942 to 1946 and well known for his aircraft engine expertise. He was a member of the First United Methodist of Ormond Beach, FL and a charter member of Pelican Bay Country Club. Harry had a passion for golf, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially visiting and playing with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his tireless energy and living life to the fullest. Harry was a long-standing member of the Jephthah Lodge A.F. & A.M. #222 of Essex, MD, Scottish Rite Valley of Orlando, FL – 32’ Knights Commander Court of Honor, Bahia Shrine Center of Orlando, and the Royal Order of Jesters of Orlando, FL – Court #166. He will be dearly missed by four daughters, Kathleen Yaeger (William), Ormond Beach, FL, Hope Wehner (Arthur), Ormond Beach, FL, Susan Orman (John), Ormond Beach, FL, Deborah Percival (Thomas), Port Orange, FL, and his two step children Carolann Good (Mike) Columbus, OH and Philip Rice (Virginia) Chicago, IL. Harry was also survived by 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday October 19, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 548 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
