David Walls passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at the age of 67 on February 11, 2024. His loved ones are devastated by the immense loss but are holding on to the memories they were able to share during his life. They are grateful to have had such a caring, loving, and supportive father, partner, brother, son, uncle and friend even if his time may have been cut short.
David was born on August 7, 1956, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended North Central High School and received his bachelor’s degree at Purdue University. He was a big Boilermaker fan. David worked as a buyer for Marshall Fields in Chicago as one of his first jobs out of college and continued working within the fashion and retail space up until 2018. Work hard, play hard is a saying that comes to mind when thinking of David. Those who knew him would say he had the ability to light up a room with his smile and make anyone laugh, but he was also one of the most dependable, organized, and sweetest guys they had ever met. He was committed to helping others and was always someone you could lean on for support.
In 2020, David relocated to Ormond Beach, Florida, and found a very special community. He started working at the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Memberships and Partnerships. A role he so cherished and took very seriously (except when he had a tee time to get to on Friday afternoon). Through this, he met so many wonderful people and touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a friend to all.
David was a rock for his family and was committed to making sure his children always felt his love and support. His friends would say that his humor and laugh were contagious and cherish the laughs spent with him. He was all around a great and loyal guy. David was passionate about life, he had a bucket list and was busy planning trips with his partner, Gayle. Those who knew him well saw his more sensitive side. He loved children and animals (I know his boxer Cassie will be waiting for him at the pearly gates). He also started bird watching and feeding the turtles that lived in his pond. He was a huge Chicago sports fan, one of his favorite teams being the Cubs. He loved golfing, walking on the beach, hosting parties, and having the occasional cigar.
David is survived by his mother Barbara (nee Roberson) Walls; brother Jeffery (Jani) Walls and sister Holly (nee Walls) Wait. Loving father of Victoria and Christopher Walls. Loving uncle to nephews Jason Walls and Tyler Wait, and niece Jami Walls. Former husband and friend of Megan Walls. Life partner and dear friend of Gayle Webb. Preceded in death by his father Hollis (Pete) Walls.
His presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in all of those who loved him.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at the Volusia Memorial in Ormond Beach.
In lieu of flowers, we ask friends contribute any pictures they have of David and add them to the website. If desired, friends may make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or Catholic Charities.
