William Patrick Dougherty, 88, of South Orleans, passed away on March 18, 2014. His loving wife of 62 years, D. Eileen Dougherty, predeceased him on July 18, 2006. He also leaves three children, Dorleen Bates and her husband Kenn of Brewster, Willow MacLellan and her husband Jim of Eastham, and William H. Dougherty and his wife Sissy of Brewster; 5 grandchildren, Jeff Bates, Amanda Battles Santos, Patrick Eiler, William F. Dougherty and Brittany Dougherty; and 8 great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister Nadine Klemm of New Jersey. He was predeceased by his grand-daughter Tonya Bates .
Bill was born in New Jersey on October 24, 1925 to William and Edith Dougherty. His father was career Navy. He joined the Navy himself during WWII and was a Seabee. He married his wife while in the service on August 19, 1944. They moved from Staten Island, NY in 1955 to his current home in South Orleans. At that time he built Bill’s Sunoco Service which is still a family owned business. He was also a founding member of the Orleans-Eastham Elks Club. He will always be remembered for his generosity in the community, for anyone who needed a helping hand.
Burial will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Saturday June 14th, 2014 at Laurino’s restaurant, 3668 Route 6A, Brewster. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA of Brewster. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com
