Roger H. Baldwin

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Roger Hill Baldwin, on December 18, 2017 at the age of 74. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am followed by a celebration of life service at 12:30 PM, Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldridge Pkwy, Orleans, Massachusetts. Interment will be held at the Orleans Cemetery immediately following.

Roger was born November 29, 1943 in New York, New York, to long time East Orleans residents, Jean Frances Hill and Stephen W. Baldwin. He served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4th Class in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He received his degree in Fashion Merchandising Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology, State University of New York. He began his career with Higbee’s in Cleveland, Ohio and continued to work in the retail management industry as a retail executive. At the midpoint of his career, he worked for Hart Shaffner Marx as the Southern Region Vice President before transitioning to G.A. Wright, where he worked as an Independent Retail Consultant.

Wherever Roger went he brought along his passion for food, music and meeting new people. In work and life, he was the definition of a “traveler”, always exploring his destinations and finding new adventures. As a child, his family would vacation on Balston Beach in Truro which began his lifelong love for the Cape. You could always find Roger sitting at the top of the hill watching the Orleans Cardinals/Firebirds, playing trivia at the Land-Ho or sitting by the gazebo at Nauset Beach listening to the music.

He will be sadly missed by Mary Baldwin (nee Holtwick), his three children, Jennifer Sinars (Damon), Jon Michael (Dana) and Carrie Sputore (Christopher). His adoring grandchildren, Kayla, Aubrey, Nathan and Dominic, will always remember him as Papa Roger. He is survived by his brother Peter Baldwin (Joan) and his nephew’s families: Alex (April) and their children Anna and Amelia and Matthew (Caitlin) and their children Ryan and Jake.

Those who so desire, may make memorial donations in memory of Roger to the Orleans Historical Society and Museum.
