Leo George Lavin of Chatham and Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20th, 2011. George was a delightful and personable man who brought joy and happiness to all who knew him and we will all miss him dearly.
George was born Christmas day 1921 to Leo and Mary (McInery) Lavin and grew up on Pleasant St. in Worchester with his sister Leona and brothers Philip and Paul. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1939. He served in WWII as a staff sergeant in the 16th Bombardment group in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
After the war, George started his 35-year career with New England Electric Company. He married Mary Foley of Bellingham, Mass. in 1954 and lived in West Boylston until moving to Orange, Ma where they lived for 25 years before retiring to their summer home in South Chatham in 1984.
Mary passed away shortly thereafter. He then met and married Beverly Marvin and they enjoyed residing summers in South Chatham and winters in Vero Beach, Fl.
George is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter Beth and son in law Clay Gilmore of Brewster, grandchildren Kerry Gilmore of Tallahassee, FL and Kelsey Gilmore of New York, NY, step children Peyton (Pete) Anness of Miami, FL, Derrick and Cathy Anness of Jupiter, FL, India Hobson and Bill Marvin of California, Dwight Marvin of Independence, KY as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 9-10:30 am Saturday, March 26th at Nickerson Funeral Home on 77 Eldredge Park Way in Orleans. Funeral Services will be at 11am at St. Joan of Arc in Orleans followed by the burial at Peoples Cemetery in Chatham.
