John grew up on “the Hill.” He often talked fondly of his days surrounded by the several large families who also lived there.
He graduated from Mission Hill High, where he played basketball and baseball. He went on to play basketball at St. Anselm College, from which he graduated in 1956.
He served in the Army from 1957-1962, where he also had the opportunity to play basketball.
Upon his discharge, he became an accountant for the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense in Washington D.C., before returning to New England and continuing to work for the government until he retired. He was proud that his daughter followed in his footsteps and became an accountant as well.
He enjoyed sports throughout his life but especially enjoyed watching his son James play hockey through college.
He had a quick wit and always positive and generous to those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
