James Muth

Born in Passaic, NJ, July 19th, 1935, to James M. Muth Sr. and Gertrude E. (Heery). Jim grew up in and around the Ramsey NJ area most of his life, and attended Ridgewood Grammar and Ridgewood High Schools before leaving to attend Bates college in Lewiston, Maine from 1953 to 1957.

After graduating from Bates, Jim and his long time love Margo Driesen married August 10th, 1957 and Jim entered Officers Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. From there, the newlyweds moved to Virginia and took an apartment as Jim entered the Navy, and began to proudly serve on board the USS Opportune ARS 41 for the next four years. At one point during his tour, partly because of his love for the game, Jim was able to start up the first basketball team in the Arctic. After his shipboard service, Jim served Shore Duty for 1 year in Cromwell, Conn. as Commanding Officer of the Navel Reserve Training Center. While there, Jim started the Sea Scouts at the Center.

After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1962, Jim went to work for (then) Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. in Bloomfield, Conn. as a Senior Underwriter where he would continue for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. Because of their love of the Cape after spending many years vacationing here, Jim and Margo then moved to North Eastham to enjoy their retirement in 1992, also becoming members of the United Methodist Church of Eastham.

Jim is survived by the greatest love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Margo, and by their three children Deborah Reilly of Falmouth, Robert Muth of Hyannis, and Timothy Muth of Breckinridge, Mo. Also by his grandchildren Jennifer Reilly of Falmouth, Kyle Reilly of Hopkinton, Tristan Reilly of Falmouth, Shelby Muth of Canton, Conn., and by his great-granddaughter Juliett Muth of Canton, Conn.

In addition to family, Jim also leaves behind a small, but very exceptional group of friends in the Plitts, the Johnsons, and the Thomlinsons. His fellow roommates at Bates College

Funeral and Memorial services will be private, at the request of the family. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Jim had a great love for his family above all else, which included his dogs which were his constant companions throughout his life. He also had a passion for history, nature, and everything that could be learned from both. He will be greatly missed, but the lessons he gave, the gentleness of his being, and the constant smile of his soul will always be with those who had the extraordinary opportunity to know him.
