Francis T Worrell

Francis T. Worrell, 100, died peacefully at Epoch Healthcare, Brewster Massachusetts on December 6, 2015. Husband of Marjorie (Petheram) Worrell for 44 years he is survived by his loving wife as well as his two sons, Ned and Bill, and grandchildren Louisa, Lynn, Evan, and Suzanne. Born April 19, 1915 in Hartford Connecticut, the only child of William Hoyt Worrell and Maria Toussaint Worrell, he spent much of his childhood and young adult years in Ann Arbor Michigan, as well as one year in Jerusalem (Palestine). After attaining his PhD in Physics at University of Pittsburgh he spent most of his working life as professor. At the Radiation Lab (MIT) during World War II, he assisted in developing radar technology that was crucial for the Allied victory. As an academic, he taught Physics, and conducted research in colleges and universities in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts, as well as overseas on a Fulbright Scholarship. Francis was an active, engaged citizen who participated in and led town committees in Lexington, Yarmouth, and Harwich addressing issues of environmental protection, urban planning and livable communities. He cared deeply about the environment, enjoyed being in nature and was an avid hiker. He loved music and folk dancing, and was an active parish member and singer in several church choirs. A Memorial service will be held at Brewster First Parish Church on December 22, 2015 at 11 AM. Memorial donations to the Massachusetts Nature Conservancy in his memory are welcome.
