Ellen "Ellie" M. Avellar

BREWSTER – Ellen “Ellie” Mary (McCarthy) Avellar, 92, passed away on November 25, 2023. Predeceased by all of her siblings, Ellen was one of eight, born in Maglass, Co. Kerry, Ireland to John & Ellen McCarthy. Ellie bravely traversed the Atlantic as a teen in search of opportunity in America. Working for the Walker family of NY who summered in Provincetown where she met the love of her life John “Jack” Avellar. They married in 1952 and had eight children of their own and are survived by Cora Newcomb (Justine, Andrew & wife Amanda), Ellen, John & partner, Andrea Lobkowicz (Molly & Sara), Thomas & wife Karen (Nicholas & wife Emily [Colby, Sam & Adeline] Megan, John & Sadie), Mary, Sheila (Emily & Zachary), Albert & wife Diane (Jack & Olivia) and Angelina & husband Tyler Bagge (Dominic, Connor & Ryan). She has an extended family of McCarthy’s, McElligott’s & Griffin’s in Ireland who cherished her so. Along with a huge family from AA as Ellie was a proud recovering alcoholic of nearly 42 years. A friend to all, Ellie took in many to feed, house, support and love. Always lending an ear and words of encouragement. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday December 3, 2023 from 2-4 PM at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. A Funeral Mass in Ellie’s honor will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Joan of Arc, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, with burial immediately following at Provincetown Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held from 2:30-4:30 PM that afternoon at the Pause A While “The Pause” 250 Underpass Road, Brewster MA.
