Edward L. Bonacci

Edward L. Bonacci, 86 of Orleans, MA passed away Saturday, January 4th at Cape Cod Hospital. Born in the Bronx, NY on March 6, 1933 he was the beloved son of Adeline and Joseph Bonacci and is survived by his sister Roberta Lang of Orleans, MA.

Edward was an Industrial Engineering graduate of UMass Lowell and an Electrical Engineering graduate of New York University.

In 1952 as a student, Ed created the first-ever radio station at UMass Lowell. The call letters at that time were WLTI, known today as WUML 91.5 FM and is still broadcasting in the City of Lowell.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and was trained for the Army Security Agency (ASA), now known as National Security Agency (NSA).

Ed had a long and successful career innovating, designing and manufacturing products and businesses for both the private and governmental sectors. In his early career years, Ed worked on exciting and classified technology that helped with advancements for the military, security and flight industries. One of the many exciting ventures that Ed was involved with included working on the Hubble Space Telescope.

In 1972 Ed and two partners started their own American based security and surveillance technologies company called American Dynamics. Ed’s company pioneered and transformed the securities industry on a global basis evolving into systems that are still in place today.

After retiring, Ed moved from Briarcliff Manor, NY to Orleans, MA. His many hobbies and interests included growing orchids, fine wood working, photography, collecting antique navigational equipment, rare navigational books and anything related to computer and electronics technology.

A memorial mass and celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Road, Orleans with reception to follow at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.
