Charles Robert Spiegel

Charles Robert Spiegel, Jr., 95 of South Yarmouth was born in New Haven, CT, June 7, 1927, to Charles and Anna Spiegel, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital on April 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. Charlie is survived by the love of his life, Joan Horton Spiegel with whom he shared 69 years of marriage and three sons, Charles (Amy), Wesley (Hadley) and Jeffrey (Heidi, who passed away in 2003; and partner, Wendy); and seven grandchildren – Brooke, Heather, Samuel, Olive, Charlotte, Avery and Edith.

Charlie grew up in East Haven (Mamauguin) and settled with his family in Branford, CT. He was a proud American, serving in the U.S. Army in the Medical Corps in World War II. He worked as a Master electrician. Later, he joined the East Haven Fire Department where he retired as career firefighter after decades of service. He also served as Commodore of the Branford Yacht Club. He and Joan retired to Pine Island, FL in 1987 to enjoy a longer season of boating. They later moved to St. Petersburg and then recently to Cape Cod to be closer to their sons and families. He could not have been a better husband or father and he will be remembered for his passion for family, woodworking, boating and diving. He was a friend and hero to many.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 7th at 11 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 204 Monument Rd, Orleans, MA.
