Carol Houghton, 78, of East Orleans, passed away peacefully before dawn on March 13th, 2022. Born in Winchester, MA to Carl and Phyliss Palage in 1943, she graduated Marycliff Academy in 1961, obtained her Bachelors of Arts from Emmanuel College in 1965
and began teaching art at Bedford Public Schools.
Carol met her husband of 54 years, Michael Houghton, a fellow teacher, at Winchester High
and they married at St. Mary’s Church in 1967. In 1984, Carol & Mike relocated full time
to their summer house on Cape Cod. Carol finished her masters and became the art teacher at Eastham Elementary School in 1988 for the next twenty years.
Carol was a devoted wife, mother, and teacher. She was an accomplished artist,
creating all mediums of artwork. She loved helping others with their art projects.
She believed everything could be saved and recycled and made into an art project.
Carol shared her creative spirit by cooking elaborate meals for her family & friends.
She was a serious homemaker, decorator, seamstress, avid gardener, flower arranger,
voracious reader, notetaker & leaver, champion of crosswords, classical music enthusiast,
nature, animal and sweets lover.
Carol will be remembered for her appreciation of art & design, culture, fashion, food,
beautiful handwriting, quiet methodical nature, sharp wit and expressive eyes.
Carol is survived by her two daughters, Emily Houghton and Jennifer Penn,
her two grandsons and her nephews Conrad Nobili and Nick Nobili, his wife Moira,
their children and many dear friends.
Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday June 26th, 2022,
2 - 4pm at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, Ma 02653.
Memorial donations can be made to the Lower Cape Outreach Council of Cape Cod
and the Council for Art Education.
