Betty Roberts Ritter, 81, of Yarmouthport and formerly Brewster MA, died April 9, 2012 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born December 28, 1930 in Charleston W VA, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Roberts and the wife of the late Edward A. Ritter.
Well known and much loved for her quick wit and generous spirit, Betty was passionate about all she loved- family, friends, animals, art, music, literature- and NY Times crosswords. She was a gifted sculptor, an avid reader, and a life-long learner. Her career history varied from traveling to France to teach English to serving as comptroller for Princeton Nurseries in New Jersey. However, her volunteer work was truly her vocation, and never more so than after she and Ed retired to Cape Cod. Betty served on the boards and advisory committees, held offices, and otherwise contributed to a number of organizations, including the Brewster Ladies' Library (president, two terms), the Brewster Historical Society, the Cape Symphony, the Cape Repertory Theater, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, and her church choirs.
Betty is survived by her brother Eugene and his wife Eleanor, five nieces, one nephew, seven great nieces and five great nephews, many devoted friends, and her cairn terrier Pansy. She is predeceased by her brother George. Please join us for a memorial service on Saturday June 9 at Northside United Methodist Church in Brewster at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brewster Ladies' Library, Northside UMC Brewster, or the Massachusetts Humane Society.
