William Arthur Duffy

William Arthur Duffy, 93, of Orlando, passed away October 9, 2021. He was predeceased by his twin sons, James Arthur Duffy (Electrician), and Robert William Duffy, (US Postal Inspector); and his beloved wife Edith of 64 years.

Born in New York City, NY; William joined the US Army on January 5, 1946. During his 30 year military service, he spent over 28 of them overseas-six years in Alaska, two years in Viet Nam, and 20 in Germany;

In 1949, he drove a truck in one of the first convoys into the city of Berlin, Germany, after the Soviets lifted the 1948-49 blockade. He held every enlisted rank and received his warrant commission after 12 years of service. The US Army presented William with the Bronze Star medal; 3 Meritorious Service medals; and the US Army Commendation Medal during his tours of duty.

When he retired from the US Army, his only wish "was to serve another 30 years." After retiring from the military, William worked at the United State Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was beloved by his coworkers and customers on his routes. He loved golfing, fishing, gardening, chasing sheep on the farm, taking his wife and grandchildren to Wet and Wild; and was of Protestant faith. He is survived by his daughter, Sylvia S. Thompson, of Orlando, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Pam and Cheryl; five grandchildren, Jessica, Lindsey, John, Rachel and Steven; three great grandchildren, Travis, Liam, and Edie and two nieces Sheila and Kelly.
