Originally hailing from Detroit, MI, where he was born to the late Donald R. Riley, Sr. and Victoria Couture Riley. John spent his formative years in Algonac, MI, where he lived a life of simplicity, finding joy in the pleasures of good food, black coffee, and cigarettes. John worked as one of the youngest cooks at “Henry’s Restaurant” in Algonac, Michigan when he was just 14. John was involved in a serious car accident when he was just 16 years old and became the youngest person to ever receive social security based on his own work record. However, his disabilities never stopped him from being as active as possible, and talking to anyone he could. His company was always a delight, as he embraced meaningful conversations and cherished diverse perspectives. He was a wonderful conversationalist and friendly to all he met.
John is predeceased by his siblings; Karen Riley and Michael Riley and his step-dad; Donald T. Crandall.
