Chris was my dear friend of decades. Always busy in my routine since I left NYC, I wouldn't see him as often.  I didn't find out until today, and it has broken my heart to pieces. Few like Chris... My deepest and most sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him. The void he left is immeasurable in community, family and his friends. Until we meet again. How blessed was I to meet you and call you friend.

I found out about Dr. Phang's untimely passing a few weeks after it passed away. I still remember the pure shock I felt when I was notified that he passed away. I just dropped my son off at school and was on my daily walk when I learned. I had been calling his office for about two weeks trying to schedule a physical for my son to attend summer camp and heard the message that the office was closed. It did not quite register at the time that something was wrong. The shock and devastation of hearing the news left me crying hysterically in the middle of the street on Manhattan Avenue and 110th Street in Harlem. It took a while to compose myself. Dr. Phang was my son's pediatrician since 3 days old. He came highly recommended by my OBGYN, who knew Dr. Phang well and delivered my son. At first meeting, I was pleased.  He helped me to navigate allergies with my son and I trusted his advice immensely. Dr. Phang will be sorely missed. It has taken me a while to write a memory because I have so many and the truth is that it still hurts when I think and accept the fact that he is no longer in the land of the living. There will only ever be ONE Dr. Christopher Phang. Rest in sweet peace Dr. Phang.  I am comforted by the fact that I have always thanked him for being a great doctor with great bedside manner and a doctor that my son trusted.

Miss you so so much bro. Wish it was all a dream. Rest well my love💔

I am totally shocked and devastated 🙏🏾Dr. Phang had been treating my daughter since she was a month old and she is now nearly 13. My family loved his warmth, professionalism and easy going nature. Dr. Phang was the best pediatrician my son has ever had. Dr. Phang was a bright light in the world, a connection like that with a doctor; you’re lucky to have even once. This man was available whenever we needed him. He empowered my son, gave him confidence among other things. Our hearts go out to the family, he was such a great man. He was loved so much by all, he will truly be missed.

Phang was a brilliant human and dedicated doctor. My sons and grands were his patients since they were babies. When my sons and I were suffering with Covid he checked on all of us.  I only hope Phang understood how much my family appreciated him and his genuine character as well as his caring. He is extremely  missed and a true loss to the world! 

I know this is super late but…. This hurts this man was my children’s pediatrician for many many years   . He was so kind, compassionate, he listened to us and cared for us… He was such a great person and I pray for his family and want them to know that he truly touched the lives of so many people. 

I am so devastated by the news, here I am scrolling on my phone looking to see when my sons next appointment is and I come across the notification from the office. Wow such a beautiful person you were Dr.Phang, I can’t thank you enough for the care you provided to my son since he was just three days old from April 2009-April 2023 you have provided a service and level of care to my son and I that won’t be forgotten. I can only pray that we can gain a relationship with another like you… I’m lost I don’t even know what’s next for us but for you my friend Rest In Peace you will be missed. 

Knowing Dr. Phang won't be greeting me at my upcoming appointment with his smile, or his laughter at all the drama surrounding  the terrible two's, funny three's and sassy four's has left me with a void.  Dr. Phang has been my daughter's doctor since she was a few days old. As a single mother, finding Dr. Phang felt like fate. I'm grateful to have experienced what true support,compassion, guidance and patience felt like.  If the saying "It takes a village to raise a child" was a person, it was Dr. Phang!

Dr Phang was our son's pediatrician for only 4 years. We knew the minute we arrived at his practice that we were in a special place. Dr Phang welcomed us during the pandemic, reassured us, and made us feel part of a team in our son's care. At each visit we felt so cared for and appreciated as he took the time to talk to me and our son and explain each step of the healthcare process. Dr Phang himself always responded to our calls and gave us such reassuring advice whenever we had a concern or emergency. He was always there for us. In fact, I spoke to him just a few days before he left for St Lucia. We are shocked and saddened by his loss. Sending love and condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. He will never be forgotten.

I just learned the passing of Dr. Phang’ today, I have been trying to call the office to make an appointment for my kids.  No one was able to tell me what happened, so I came down to the office, they wouldn't let me upstairs, so I did a search on Google to see what transpired because after 15 years with  Dr Phang it was unlike him then I read the news, feeling devastated.
 Dr.Phang was a true Dr. in every sense of the word. The last time  I saw him, he said to me I saw what you wrote on Google about me and I said it was the truth. During Covid, he would call at home out of nowhere to find out if the kids are ok.
You will be greatly missed, may you rest in 
assistant coach your stuff, peace, and thank you for taking care of my kids. My condolences to his family.

Dr Phang was my childrens doctor for 21 years. My son is now 18 and my daughter is 21 and they were so blessed to have such a dedicated, kind, careful, thoughtful, helpful, encouraging doctor in the youth. His influence will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. 

As I type through my tears (because I just found out he had passed away), I'm reflecting on all of the memories we shared as patients/parent. I'm so thankful that God brought him into our lives. 

He brought medical stability and reliability to a health care system that tends to be impersonal he was all heart. If I had a question, a form, a child with a fever he was accessible and helpful. 

What an amazing person and a valuable life. I feel so lucky that Dr Phang was part of our family. There are no words for the legacy Dr Phang has left on our family. His shining personality will live on in our hearts. Thank you for allowing me to share my feelings. Thank you Dr Phang. 

More than a doctor.  A brother and a friend.  Sometimes in your darkest hours, God sends an angel.  Chris, you were my angel.  The level of love and care you showed the kids and me was unparalleled.  That's why we followed you and your practice everywhere you went.  Even when we left Harlem, going elsewhere was never a thought.  Over fourteen years and many deep conversations our friendship developed and we bonded over our love of telling the truth, a good party and a strong drink.  I laughed with you.  I cried on you and you lifted me up when I needed it.  It is so fitting that the last time I laid eyes on you was in my favorite spot in Harlem.  Now every time I step into BLVD Bistro I will be scanning the room, looking for my friend.  I spoke to you that last night, before you closed your eyes.  You called me back telling me you were in St. Lucia, another one of my favorite places.  I thanked you.  Told you about Alex's silly rash and you promised we would hook up for drinks when you got back.  I am still waiting.  I will continue to wait and cry and miss my friend.  Amon says he is sorry for giving you a hard time and that you were super nice and he is sad.  He is sad but he is not sorry for giving you a hard time! Zola was tight-lipped and angry about your passing.  Classic Zola.  Alex said he does not want another doctor and it is not fair.  Alex, your little Libra twin is spot on.  It is not fair.  I hope you know how much you are loved.  So I will end with that.  You are loved.  Goodnight Chris.

We are shocked and truly saddened to hear of the loss of Dr.Phang. He was a one in the million kind of doctor who went above and beyond. I will miss his patience, his humor, his compassion…he was my children’s doctor for 15 years and it’s hard to fathom our lives without his care and kindness. Sending peace to his family.

I still can't believe Dr. Phang has transitioned to the other side. He was such a gem in Harlem and I am truly heartbroken for his family, friends and patients that no longer have him here with us. I am a parent of two children he treated at Harlem Pediatrics, I felt confident and secure in knowing he was their provider. He always listened to me and we worked as a team to ensure the children were always good. I will never forget him checking in with me after having my daughter just seeing how I was feeling physically and mentally during that time. It truly stuck with me and showed just how much he cared for not only his patients but families as a whole. Dr. Phang you are missed beyond measure. I only wish I would have known the last visit with my daughter would be our last time seeing you. We love you and miss you, your legacy will live on.

Dr. Phang was a fierce advocate for the underserved, always speaking up and saying what we were all thinking. He had an unrelenting passion that was contagious. And boy did Dr. Phang love a good turn-up. We're a small but mighty group of physicians working in the Bronx and we got together this day to unwind. We started at this restaurant in the Bronx and he certainly loved the oxtail, then we went for gelato, a chocolate martini and when we decided to tap out, Dr. Phang was ready to go to the next place. He's left such a large void in the Bronx and he was incredibly loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. It was an honor to work alongside him. We pray that God will give his family and friends strength and grant comfort in your time of bereavement. May his soul rest in peace. 

I can’t figure out how you were able to  sneak into the labor and delivery ward, but I opened my eyes and you were there, next to me holding her.
You protected her from the moment she entered this world as though she was your very own. She remembers. I will never forget.
Please continue to watch over her.

Happy Father’s Day Chris! Every year I would call and wish you a Happy Father’s Day.  You were so nurturing and caring for all of your patients and their parents, how could I not honor you on this day?  I pray your family finds comfort in the impact you have made on soooooo many lives.  I was heartbroken to learn of your passing.  May you rest in peace and live on in our actions towards our family and community.  God has called home his Angel 🕊️

From our first 2 hr phone call in high school to our at on Mother’s Day this year; you always made me feel that I was the only person in the world that mattered. Only a great person can make everyone they meet feel that way.   You have been a part of my heart and soul from the day we met and will remain so until the end of time. I will love you always 

Chris was my roommate for 3 years at Mount Sinai Medical School and also my dear friend for over 30 years.  The shock and sadness of his unexpected passing will remain with me for some time.  He texted me a picture of him happy, smiling and surrounded be beautiful young women in St. Lucia just 2 days before he passed away. That is how I will remember my friend always.  He had a huge heart and in his final text to me also asked that I extend his Happy Mother’s Day wishes to my wife and my mother.   I never dreamed that would be the last time we would communicate but I’m grateful that I have that final memory.  You will be greatly missed my friend and my love and fond memories of you will remain  as long as I live.  Rest now my brother.

Chris Phang was  the kindest, gentlest pediatrician I knew. I watched him with parents and children at Jacobi Hospital interacting in the most positive and inspiring way. Uncle Chris I still can't come to terms that you are no longer with us. I will never forget how you were there for my family when my daughter was seriously ill. I know if it was not for you advice and recommendations she would not have gotten the medical help that she needed , will never forget your words you said " Shakie this is what you need to do without any delay " as you explained how serious it was, and thanks to that she is still with us. It even breaks my heart more knowing that I can't make it to say my goodbye.  You were truly loved, respected and appreciated by many and I know you will be truly

Chris and I met when I went to MAHS from St Ann in 1980.  We became good friends and remained friends until his passing. He was my confidant and always had great advice. I will miss him but I will treasure the wonderful friendship we shared. 

On October 8th, 2022 , I received a message from Chris, which I initially needed help understanding. He asked if I had been hospitalized with a severe illness or possibly kidnapped by the Mexican cartel. Sensing my confusion, he followed up by asking what I had missed. Only then did I realize I had missed his birthday, which had never happened before in our over thirty years of friendship. Chris pointed out that I had never missed his birthday before and might need Ginkgo Biloba (always humorous).
When my daughter and I were home sick with Covid, Chris checked in on us every day, especially to remind me to have my daughter use her asthma inhaler even if she wasn’t having trouble breathing.
The last time I heard from Chris was on Mother’s Day. I am still struggling to accept that my friend is no longer here . I miss him terribly but will never forget him. So instead is saying goodbye, I will say I love you, knowing you are always with me.

To the Family of Dr. Christopher A. Phang, especially his twin Christine, I would like to offer my sincere condolences.  I considered Christopher to be my best friend in high school and then he went to Rutgers and I to Brooklyn College and life happened. There is a poem by Linda Ellis that a family shared with me during my recently complete time at Dignity Memorial in Miami which I hope will bring his family some peace. 
The gist of the poem is "it doesn't matter when you were born, nor the date of your death, every tombstone has them both and in-between a dash." It's how you lived your dash that matters and Christopher accomplished most of the things his 11 year old self said he wanted. 
In 7th grade when our Guidance counselor asked us to introduce ourselves and say a little about ourselves he said, "I am Christopher Phang, I attended  Catherine Hall Primary School,  I have a twin sister Christne, I intend to  be a Pediatrician and I am a good listener ".  Why do I remember this? Because that last sentence made a huge impact on my life and even  today  I am still  working on becoming a better listener.  That's how we learn,  grow and succeed.  Thank you Phangco for one of the most valuable lessons I learned from someone who was not my mother.  You knew my mom because she bought your dad's bread twice a week for decades. May the family find the same peace he has now found in the arms of a loving God.

On behalf of the Cornwall College Old Boy's Association, New York (CCOBANY), I wish to express our profound sadness and  loss upon the passing of our brother,  Dr.  Christopher Phang. Christopher was an active member of the New York chapter for many years.  The last membership meeting he attended was on Sunday, May 7, 2023.  Little did we know that would be his last meeting and the last time we would be hearing his voice. The association has been impacted deeply as we were looking forward to having him on our journey of imroving our alma mater.  His passing has left a noticeable void. I am so tearful, I can hardly see to write. How can I give my tribute of Dr Christopher Phang ( Christo) without mentioning his dear twin sister Christine whom introduced a group of us to Christopher in the mid 80's. We were welcomed in their home on Strand Street every day except Sundays. Christo as affectionately called by us, he was full of laughter 😃 down to earth, with an excellent sense of care and love for people. A people person he was. I personally cherished these memories of the pics and kind words We were out of contact for a while now due to migration.  May God continue to bring comfort to his dear family and to those of us friends who knew for nearly 4 decades. SEIP Dr. Christopher A Phang.  Sadly missed.

I  went to MAHS with Christine and know how dear and special her brother was to her. I had lost contact with Christine over the years but never forgot about her and was very sad to hear of her brother's passing. May she find comfort in her fond memories of him. Words cannot express the depth of our grief and the immense void that now exists in our lives. Our dear Christopher was not only a cherished member of our family but also a source of love, guidance, and inspiration to all who knew him.

I am shaking as I write this. I have been living out of the US for the past few months and last saw Dr. Phang when I brought my daughter to see him in January. since we are in town again with my newborn, I naturally reached out to him at the office and on his cell. I thought it was odd that he did not reply to my text message as he usually does. Today, I searched to see if his office number had changed and a Google search came up with this obituary. Dr. Phang was such a gift to my family, my little girl always asked for him and when she saw him, she would run to him and give him a hug. He also schooled my husband when as a new mom I was doing everything with little help - he gave him a stern talking to, and everything changed. I will always be thankful to him for speaking some sense - gently - into him. Rest In Peace doctor. 

Our most deepest condolences to the Phang family, his loved ones, and those that worked beside him for so many years. 

Dr. Christopher Phang was our sons first pediatrician back when he was at Jacobi hospital, and our son was just one week old. Eleven years later, despite us no longer living in the New York State, we always took the two hour trip for his yearly check up. There is no doubt about it that, Mr. Phang was by far the best pediatrician, nevertheless an amazing person. His genuine ability to be humble, caring, and compassionate was by far one of his best qualities as our sons pediatrician. Our appointments didn’t feel like a doctor visit, it felt more like a family visit. Our son always looked forward to seeing him and cared for him a lot. 

Dr. Phang, you will be truly missed, but will live on forever in our hearts. Thank you for all that you did and touching many lives.

Although I am devastated to lose my friend for now and  those meaningful conversations, I have peace in knowing that he is Okay. He was a  temporary gift to us from God to positively impact so many of our lives and as much as we wanted him here  God had bigger plans and wanted him there.

I met the late physician Christopher Phang or Chris Phang as I fondly called him, on my first day at Rutgers University. We were both Jamaicans who were pursuing a career in medicine and we immediately bonded on our rigorously focused journey of accomplishing our dreams. We became so close he was considered a part of my family. Yet even though our  physical paths diverged as we matriculated in different medical schools our friendship never waned and we continued to nurture our friendship through many of our milestones and life's unexpected twists and challenges.

Most of us know of Dr. Phang's friendship, humor, laughter, loyalty, compassion, empathy, humility, brilliance, professional diligence and entrepreneurship, conscientious  leadership and outstanding accolades. Hence, I cannot concur more with the heart-felt tributes here, which outline his captivating personality and remarkable achievements. However, I need to remind those who knew and highlight to those who were unaware about an exceptional area of his life. Chris Phang was amazingly spiritual, and with all his inspirational attributes and professionalism, that is what matters now. He was sincerely inquisitive about what is known as Christianity and he had developed a profound faith and trust in and an extraordinary love of God. He met life's adversities with childlike faith in the Lord and prevailed exhibiting  immeasurable resilience. In my humble opinion this was what propelled Him to success, kept him grounded and was the guidance for his daily endeavors. I miss his 

friendship but more so the many hours we occasionally spent sharing stories of miracles that occurred in our lives and delving into the unsearchable mysteries of God. I smile through my sadness because I  believe he now knows the truth and his ultimate goal in this life has  been fulfilled. I will continue to cherish those memories and my only regret is that I had not documented some of his fascinating experiences.

Dr. Phang was the pediatrician for my two children, Yda and Tamir. I met Dr. Phang when I was pregnant with Yda, my older child and I knew there was no other doctor whom I wanted for my baby. I will never forget how much he respected my children, as infants, into their childhood. It is with that same respect that I will remember him. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. 

Saddened by this news. My heart is heavy.   

 Dr Chris Phang and I worked together on several projects over the years. He was THE BEST! Dedicated pediatrician,friend and person with \ integrity. Chris was phenonmenal.  Chris ALWAYS - and I mean always -- cared about his patients and the people that he came in contact with.  I will miss our periodic calls.  Keeping Chris, his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.

Heartbroken.  Our kids were one of Dr. Phang’s  first patients at his practice in Harlem.  For nearly 17 years Dr. Phang always answered our calls not matter the time of day. Always reassuring, caring and compassionate, always there.  We were so delighted to have him as our guest at daughter’s Sweet 16!  

This is the picture he sent me several days before his passing and I will always remember him this way, smiling and living his best life. 
We met at work and instantly bonded over our shared love and commitment to health equity and the black community. I am so grateful to have had lunch with him last month and will always cherish his good advice, jokes and genuineness. 
He has left a rich legacy to your family and the community as a whole.

Dr. Phang was my kids pediatrician for almost 15 years. I’m devastated to hear the news of Dr. Phang’s sudden passing. He was a great man and a wonderful pediatrician for both of my kids. We enjoyed his sense of humor, his dedication to his patients and his warmth. He was genuinely interested in the stories and events they would tell him.  We will surely miss him!

Dr. Christopher Phang was an excellent pediatrician, teacher, and mentor. I was a pediatrics resident taught by him at NYC Health+Hospitals / Jacobi and he was my clinic preceptor during my three years of residency training. After I graduated my residency I returned to jacobi as an attending physician and was honored to call him a colleague. He always mentored me and looked out for me and made time to me feel like I belonged. As a physician in training of color it can be hard to feel accepted. I remember as a pediatrics intern on my first day in clinic I started introducing myself by my first name to nursing staff and he stopped me and said “No this is Dr. Romo.” Then took me aside and said you earned that degree and deserve to be called by the title you earned. You belong here. He went to teach me countless pediatrics lessons I apply in my own clinical practice to this day. That’s the beauty of working in medicine. Despite the advances,
medicine is still an apprenticeship, and every lesson passed on ensures the instructor of that lesson lives on whenever that lesson is applied or passed on to another. May the many lessons and inspirations of Dr. Phang continue to live on.

I last saw Christopher some 11 years ago, reconnecting some 27  years after we represented Cornwall College in the School's Challenge Quiz competition. We kept in touch, periodically checking in on each other, and it was just on May 8th that he sent me a quick note expressing his condolences on the recent loss of my Dad. As you might imagine, it was surreal when just 9 days later I heard the terrible news that Chris had passed. 

Chris was a bright shining light when I first met him close to 40 years ago, and that light was never diminished. His brilliance was matched by his calm confident demeanor, his compassion, and his sense of humor. Truly a loss for us all. Rest in peace my friend; until we meet again. 

Delapsus resurgam.

I knew Chris from grade 7 (1980) at the great Cornwall College, we remained great friends throughout high school through to Lower Sixth. Chris was always fun to be around, he was an integral part of our group…. The “Refugee Posse”. Those were great times and great years. 
I remember the “Posse” hanging out at Strand street back in the day.
Good times, good times……
We lost touch after we both chose different academic routes for the same calling. 
I was very saddened to learn of his sudden passing. I send condolences to the family and friends all. Chris will be missed dearly.

My dear Christopher… You were my friend for over 20 years and the pediatrician to my two sons. You and I just texted on Mother’s Day and as always you gave me such sound advise. Your laughter, good nature and genuine concern always made me feel better. You were more than a doctor to our family.  You will be truly missed by many- especially your beloved Harlem community, Harlem Pediatrics, and the many families you served. Rest In Peace my dear friend. Wish I could have one last day to let you know how special you were. ❤️

As a member of the Cornwall College "brotherhood" I always feel very sad feeling when a "brother" passes .
 I do remember Christopher  as senior in high school . I haven't seen him since 83/84 but  Gone too soon is really applicable here .

Christopher,  (Dr Christopher Phang) even though it has been years since we last saw each other, the great laughs, playing dominoes after school, ....it all seems like yesterday.
It is still so hard to accept the news of his passing.  He will be missed!

To the family of Dr. Christopher A. Phang, i would like to extend my deepest condolences. We were contemporaries throughout our educational journey. This spanned from primary school all the way through to medical school. 

Although he and I had fallen out of touch with each other, he had always remained in my thoughts, and I was happy to see his accomplishments. It touches me deeply in so many ways to learn of his untimely passing, and I can  only imagine your pain and sorrow. Unfortunately, nothing can be said that would change that.
