Dave worked in the family auction business for most of his adult life and for many years also worked as a cameraman and videographer for a local video production company.
As a young man he was an accomplished amateur wrestler and for a brief time represented Team USA on a tour of Ireland and Scotland. He qualified for the Olympic trials in 1976 while attending Florida Tech University now known as UCF.
He was a quiet and humble man that was very generous and kind hearted. He was deceivingly intelligent and his eyes would light up when he talked about the space program, American history, wonders of the world, or the marvels of God’s creation. He was also extremely talented artistically and over the years created many wonderful paintings and wood carvings that are treasured by the fortunate few he would give them to.
He was a devoted son and had a very close relationship with his mom and dad. In their later
years he would visit them several times a week. The highlight of this mother’s week is when he would
accompany her in her weekly painting class. As a brother, he was everything a big brother should
be. A best friend, a teacher, fiercely loyal, and a protector. His family and his dogs were the most
important things in his life.
Dave lived in several places during his lifetime, but the place he loved the most and visited often was the family farm in Iroquois County, Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Myra Garner. He is survived by his brothers Robert Garner of Jacksonville, Michael Garner of Bartow, and 4 nieces.
Visitation services will be held on November 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers please make contribution in honor of Dave to: First Coast No More Homeless Pets 464 Cassat Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32254.
