Miguel A. Norat, fondly known as "Mike", passed away peacefully Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the age of 83 in Orlando, Florida. Mike was born on August 15,1940, in Coamo Puerto Rico to Julio and Justina Norat. He was one of seven children. Mike was Raised in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico where he spent most of his childhood. Mike was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to many. His presence will be deeply missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
Mike was preceded in death by his siblings, Tata, Monse, Margie, Julio, and his parents Julio and Justina Norat. He is survived by his son, Miguel A. Norat Jr., Melissa Camacho and Lucas Norat, his grandson, Anthony M. Norat, his sister Carmen Venticinque, his brother Tony Norat, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children.
Mike was proud to have served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He later pursued a career with the City of Philadelphia, Mayor's Office. Highly regarded and well-known as a Spanish-speaking Sportscaster/DJ for WTEL in Philadelphia for many years, he broadcasted both local and national sports, Baseball was his personal favorite. He also owned and operated a successful business in the city of Phila. for over 30 years. Miguel was passionate about playing Dominoes and organized Domino tournaments in Philadelphia and New Jersey. A skilled bowler, he carried an impressive average of 175 and enjoyed competing as part of several Spanish and American bowling leagues.
One of Miguel's standout accomplishments was his time as a Double A Baseball player at which he excelled and received the Triple Crown for most RBIs, Hits, and Home Runs. His talent and dedication to the sport were honored by inducting him into the Ponce, Puerto Rico Baseball Hall of Fame. He is also a Sons of Juana Diaz member. Miguel sponsored many baseball teams of his own in Philadelphia for several decades.
A celebration of Miguel's life, with Military honors, on July 27th, 2024, will be held at True Life Church, 5400 Markham Woods, Lake Mary, Florida at 11AM followed by a gathering at 1pm at the VFW Club, 1520 Ronald Reagan Blvd., Longwood, Florida where food and Dominos will be enjoyed in his memory.
Miguel will be remembered for his generosity and unforgettable jokes that never failed to bring a smile to those around him. His giving heart and lively spirit touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting legacy that will endure for years to come. May Miguel A. Norat rest in peace, surrounded by the love and fond memories of those who cherished him.
