Joseph Formoso, 75 (January 7, 1948 – December 4, 2023) peacefully passed from this life into heaven, while surrounded by many of his loved ones at his bedside. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his cherished wife of 53 years, Eva Formoso, his beloved children: Francesca (spouse Craig), Bartholomew (spouse Rebecca), Vincent (spouse Rudite), and Joseph (spouse Jasmin), (9) grandchildren: Raquel (Spouse Joseph), Victoria, Jeremy, Victoria W. (through marriage), Joseph, Aviana, Michael, Alexander, and Alia and (3) brothers: Angelo, Giacinto, and Gaetano along with many nieces and nephews.
To know Joseph, was to know his passion for hard work, his love for God and his entire family. Joseph was an Italian immigrant that was born in Camporeale, Sicily. He boldly came to America at the young age of 18 with only 2 suitcases, $60, and the desire to create a better life. Even without knowing the language, he was able to find work as a machinist and pursued his goals to save money and help his family back home. After marrying the love of his life, Eva, he raised a family and was always an excellent provider. In 1980, he relocated to Deltona and joined the family restaurant business of Vincent’s Villa Napoli. He was known for his homemade dough, garlic bread, and delicious Sicilian, deep-dish pizzas.
After the business was sold, Joseph became a licensed building contractor, with his wife, and their new company was born, Formoso Homes, Inc. For over 30 years, Formoso Homes, Inc. built hundreds of beautiful, custom homes in West Volusia County and the surrounding areas. Their model centers over the years, never failed to impress. Proudly, they received multiple Parade of Homes awards; one in 1995, and two in 1997. Each of their quality homes were built with pride and always exceeded the building code requirements. Each of them also came with a custom piece of artwork displaying the Scripture, Proverbs 24: 3-4, which reads… (3) “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; (4) By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
Through much hard work, dedication, and God’s grace, Joseph (with Eva by his side) was able to achieve his goal of having a better life for himself and his family. He established an excellent reputation within the community, building homes with integrity and honesty. He was, undoubtedly, a man of his word.
Although he lived a conservative lifestyle, he was very generous and was known for his acts of kindness towards those in need. He was passionate about helping others get their business started as well. He would very often ask God to provide food for all those who didn’t have any in his prayers before meals. He was also so personable and loved talking with everyone, young and old alike. He loved to laugh and make new friends wherever he went.
Some of the things he enjoyed were taking cruises with his wife and family, along with annual scalloping trips to his vacation home in Steinhatchee. He also loved to grow fruits and vegetables in his substantial garden. You could always find him in the garden with a small piece of herb in his mouth admiring the crops of the season. He would consistently share all that he grew with those he loved. Throughout his life, he loved to bless others and found joy in sharing the principles of God. He would often say, “Don’t worry, God keeps the books”.
In his later years, his grandchildren became his absolute pride and joy. Regardless of his successes or losses throughout the economic downturns in life, he remained steadfast and responsible, had an excellent foundation for his family, and always kept his trust in the Lord.
He has left behind a beautiful legacy for his family and the community. He will be dearly missed by many, and he will be loved forever!
